yeah...it's some months they have bought it. The new dimmu borgir was recorded in the new studio fredman.
In february they was already in the old studio fredman

Does that mean their new album will sound better? I really hate the sounds of reroute + nothing against the band but everything sounds so over eq'd and the drums sound aweful. They've always been my #1 pick for "needs to work with Andy Sneap!"

Fredrik Nordström and Anders Fridén had the studio together for a while (1999-2002 or something like that), but it didn't really work out so they split it in two parts... Anders got the smaller control room and Fredman got the bigger one, and they had the big recording room and the kitchen etc together. Anders studio was called Phlat (or Phat?) Planet or something similar, and it had NOTHING to do with Studio Fredman, besides the fact that they shared some of the rooms.
The Bravewords article states that In Flames bought Studio Fredman... this is wrong. Studio Fredman is still owned by Nordström, but he's running his business at another place now. When Fredman moved out of the old (huge) studio; Fridén and the rest of In Flames took it over. Fredman told me this about a year ago, but maybe it wasn't official news until now? Strange.

Why did Nordstrom move his business to another place, Fredrik? So In Flames are loaning the old studio from him?
the rent for the old place was over the fucking roof, heard it from my friend that recorded there with fredman.

This is correct... it was a HUGE place, and it was just a couple of minutes to walk from the Gothenburg Railway Station, and therefor the rent was really high. In Flames aren't loaning or renting anything from Fredrik (since he was a tenant himself), but from whoever owns the building... it used to be owned by AB Vin & Sprit, but not for the last 20 years or so.

I don´t know which one it was, but there´s a In Flames - production where the snare´s reminding me at a ping-pong-ball everytime.
I don´t want to say that I´d done everything better and stuff, but In Flames are moreoften the weirdest metalproductions on this level of reputation in my ears.

Yeah the stuff that Danne Bergstrand has done with IF has been less than stellar IMO. But who are we to know the factors for that. Destroy Erase Improve showed that he could do a hell of a metal mix (although his snares have never been that great it seems), so maybe he was limited in some way, working with IF.
Inspired by that thread, I just listened to some songs of Come Clarity... there are some parts where the snare is pretty good to be heard and I really would like to her it solo... just because I think it fits in the mix but sounds like crap compared to some snare-sounds we´re used to know from Mr. Sneap and stuff.

For as long as Nordstrom has been there, couldn't he have bought the place or something? Like rent to own? Get a loan. I'm assuming it must be a bit of trouble to relocate all that equipment.

I was wondering where his Trident went when I watched the Dimmu Borgir studio footage. I thought it was odd that he was sitting behind a D Command.

It's so much harder to get a great metal sound without using samples. AFAIK Bergstrand doesn't use them. I kinda like the sound he's getting. It's weird but very unique. You can really hear the dynamics in the drums.
