I ran into the same issues when I was exploring this tone. Try re-recording it with everything BUT the maxon. Remember, the overdrive pedal constricts the bandwidth slightly. Less hi & low. The "flying V" mic pattern also does this by being slightly out of phase & removing some nasty frequencies. Unfortunately, when you combine the two, you get double the effect & a very unexciting sound. I have to agree with Ether & MK, the tone needs more work.

Don't take it the wrong way, this can be a very difficult technique to master. But, remove the Maxon, and you should be on your way. Just because the Maxon is a great tool, and belive me, it is great, doesn't nesessarily mean it should be used all the time.
