Yessir, exactly like that. I run mine like that with EMG 707's, with the gain at 4, bass at 6, middle at 4, and treble at 5. Through a 58 and cheap behringer mixer, it sounds like this...

It also sounds like you moved the mic a bit between the first and second clips... the most prominent speaker resonances have shifted, and the high end is completely different. Sounds to me like your first clip was right about on the edge of the dustcap and your second was a bit further out. Of course, I also could be completely wrong.
