increasing sustain

hey guys

received a track a week ago to mix, but the only problem is that they sustain on the guitars is lacking. Hard to explain, but the tone sounds great, but there is no sustain. I have tried compression, but just pumped too much. How do you guys deal with such tones, when there is no possibility of re recording, would a transient designer work?

You could try Melodyne. Theres a tool that lets you drag notes so they are longer, I use it on bass a lot. Note sure if it would sound good on guitar though.

Did you tried Upward compression?

Maybe you can edit it manually by automating the volume.... but that would be a hell of a job....
