Indie music similer to Neutral Milk Hotel

I been liking this band and like to hear more in this style.

NMH is freaking God.

But don't bother looking for other bands like that. There aren't any. Indie rock is awful. Neutral Milk Hotel is incredible, which sets them apart from indie rock in many ways. The only other good indie rock band is Pixies. They're nothing like NMH but they're excellent...

Heard a few seconds of The Shine and Animal Collective songs and couldn't stand the vocals at all.

I only included Animal Collective to illustrate my point that indie rock is awful. I think they're just about the worst band around, but they're soo huge with college kids these days. I actually think The Shins were pretty good on Oh, Inverted World though. I hated them for a very long time, but after hearing so much worse indie I started to become okay with them.

Very true fact right there. I don't think Nirvana would have done Nevermind had the Pixies not been around.
