indie/scenester question

i got 2000's The Moon and Antarctica and i think it's pretty good, but most indie/scenester types criticize that album and everything after Lonesome Crowded West (1997?).

selling out is not measured by success... but rather changing your sound to step out of the indie scene, and using the scene to further your goal of "being big".

some people can go to majors without "selling out".

but modest mouse just sucks... and yes, alex is right, everything thing after Lonesome Crowded West (yes '97) is craptastic.

interesting. thank you for shedding some light on that jake. i needed an expert opinion.

the rules for "selling out" were always a litle hazy to me and now that i am in a position to have seen bands on the undergorund now growing to a more commercial and successful plateu i am curious to see which ones will be called sell-outs.
