indie/scenester question

Wow, the things I learn on this board... I just got an image of Avi getting his sack licked by canines whilst eating feline fecal matter. Wonderful. And it's almost lunch-time.
So, what do the Powers think of Cave In? Have they sold out?

Speaking of random speech impediments, once I noticed the fuckup in Air's "Surfing in a Wacket" it became unlistenable...

With regards to selling out:

i dunno, i think Cave In sold out. the fact that they did it gradually doesn't really excuse the fact that they made a conscious, success-oriented decision to play a more accessible form of music that has been tried and tested by bands like puddle of mudd.

and when did their sound turn around and start heading back to metalcore? when success eluded them. not "naturally".

i wonder if 'selling out' is primarily seen as selling out when it's really just an indication of an artist or group losing inspiration and creative drive - & once they've hit the point where they're actually offered a substantial record deal, it just happens to coincide with their loss of fire in their music, and end up creating stuff that is more stripped down, basic, and less thought-out?

Why is everything commercial shitty?

I think there's a big difference between the quality of Cave In's commercial sound and fucking Puddle of Mudd.

ps: the new Slipknot ownz.

I'm still not sure where I stand on that "issue". For a while I'd hoped they'd changed their style because they were mature enough to know they couldn't keep repeating "Until Your Heart Stops" for ever, and not because they thought it would sell. I fact, I don't know that they're more popular now that they're on RCA. Has their fan-base really shifted? Though Antenna was kinda weak, there were some moments of pure inspiration on Tides..., Jupiter, Creative Eclipses, etc.
I dunno, I'm gonna give'em the benefit of the doubt for their next release...
