The way I see it, it is a big difference to play CoB (melodic death metal), then Nevermore (hardcor/thrash death metal), and then Symphony X (progressive metal). The first two bands are quite a bit different from SyX imo, especially the particular song "Out of the Ashes" which has more of a neoclassical sound to it. Also, it is understandable for people to have such a shocked response to death vox, I still don't like them myself and can only "tolerate" certain bands vox that have good music (ie Children of Bodom). On the note of people liking SyX if they were played on the radio that is true, but, just about anything played on the radio is taken in to a liking by nationwide listeners. The problem is just that they listen to what is fed to them by the industry. And at the same time, image is more important to radio listeners than actual music. The way I see it is that most people don't want to listen to truly crafted/meaningful music because they just want something simple and catchy to listen to and just let the radio give it to them rather than take the time to discover unknown bands and music genres. Well I rather it be this way because it is something that makes me unique, and why should it make me mad if I can listen to this excellent music. "They" are the ones that are missing out.COBSteele02 said:I did a test on some college buddies when they came in from Xmas break. They all listen to mainstream crap.
I played 3 songs. They have no idea what bands these are mind you.
1st song - Kissing the Shadows by Children of Bodom
General Opinion - Way to fastpaced for me.(wussies) I can't understand him at all.(who cares did you hear that solo?
2nd Song - Enemies of Reality by Nevermore
General Opinion - Too heavy.(again wussies) Are these guys satanists?(morons)
3rd Song - Out of the Ashes by Symphony X
General Opinion - The intro was cool.(thank god) I like the singer hes really good, I got the meaning of the song.(about time) Its a very catchy tune.(yur damn right it is.)
I acctually got a burn request. I said if you like it that much then go forth and buy a cd please.
Final Analysis. If Symphony X is played on the radio, people will like accept them I think, and I think the general opinion will be rather good.
