Influences or Chance......

It was towards the end of 5th grade in 89' that i first heard Anthrax. We had walkman parties and a classmate had "state of euphoria". So i put the cassette in my walkman and was blown away. I was a Metallica fan at the time and i had heard of Anthrax but didnt know what they sounded like. But it wasnt until sept.90' that i REALLY got into them when i bought my first Anthrax tape "persistance of time". I"ve been a LOYAL fan ever since. Even when they replaced Joey i still bought every cd they came out with even though i was dissapointed with some of the Bush stuff i still supported them and still do. Im real excited about Joe and Dan being brought back. I think it rules!!

Same with me, only release I don't have is Volume 8 because at that point I had given up on the band, I hated that album!

I was big into comics at school (still big into comics now). Someone saw me reading a Judge Dredd comic and mentioned that some metal band had done a song about Judge Dredd. He couldn't remember the name of the band, but was pretty sure it started with "A"! I went to Rainbow Records - our local independent at the time - and started looking at the song titles on all these cassettes by Accept and so on. It wasn't long before I found the title "I am the law" on the back of the Anthrax tape. I remember being really excited by picture on the cover, so I bought it.

Later that night...
"Dyaww dya-dyaw DYAWWww... Dyaww dya-dyaw DYAWWww..."

Yeah Vol.8 was real hard to grasp. To me it is just NOT anthrax. Maybe 2 or 3 songs i like but forget it.

Just listened to it today - one of the (maybe top three) Anthrax's very best CDs IMO!

Weird. Pound for pound, I reckon vol.8 is by far Anthrax's lowest point, musically. There are some good tracks on there (Catharsis), but they are drowned out by the utter, utter dross.

When you listen to vol.8 after you get done listening to any one of the Joey cds it just doesnt sound right.
I would compare it to listening to "load" after listening to any 80's metallica cd.
But, like i said i do like "stomp442" and "w.c.f.y.a.".
"white noize" is alright but lacks the crunch and heaviness of "stomp".
"w.c.f.y.a." has the best song writing of any Bush era cd. It just flows from start to finish.
Thats just my opinion i could be wrong.

First saw them on HBB..went out and got the tape(ahaha).. made ALL our friends listen to it...bought 8 tixs for the Headbanger's Ball show...sold them to our friends ..(what a killer show that was)..and that started a loyal Anthrax following in a small coastal town. To this day even though we are spread out around the country..we still go to their shows, etc. Their ticket stubs & pics take up a large portion of our concert albums.

Opinions are allowed. It is neither wrong or right.:goggly:

Yeah, I kind of agree with you there. One of the problems I had with latter era Thrax is that the albums were scattered with good songs, but you had to pick them out among the dross. WCFYA didnt have that problem - good album from the start to the finish (with perhaps my personal take it or leave it attitude to safe home). I really liked stomp a whole lot, but Vol.8 is such a patchwork effort, I wonder if they would have been better leaving it another 12 months or so until they had some stronger material to weed out the chaff.

It seems Cadillac roack box has a pretty hardcore following on here, but it doesn't cut it for me. Can someone tune me into what Im missing with that track ?

Been listening to "Armed..." again today, Killer stuff  (Minus Joeys really bad English accent on God save the queen!)

I finally found "fistfull of metal". I was at borders book store and they had this cd with both "fistfull" and "armed" on the same cd. Its a Megaforce records release. It has both front covers blended together on the front.
I havent heard the original recording but this cd sounds like it was streamed off a wav file or something.
I've had all of anthrax releases for years except "fistfull" and "armed". Now my collection is complete.

Well, I was just getting into metal around 6th or 7th grade. I'm a younger guy(only 19) so the "Big 4" were solidified by then. I picked up some Anthrax CDs without even a listen, pretty much knowing from the start that if they were that respected in a very harsh and demanding music subculture they would be good. Spreading the Disease and Among the Living blew me away and I've been a fan for about 5 or 6 years. Still have yet to see a concert, not too many gigs around the lousy city where I live.

two different things in less than a weeks span made me a fan. the first was miy first day of seventh grade. a whole new group of people in a new school. walked into a class room and this guy at the back of the room had an Among The Living tee shirt on. Randall Flag in all his glory. i didnt have a clue what it was but i thought it looked cool. a few night later was out with my older brother and one of his buddies put in the I'm The Man e.p. thought the rapping was kinda cool and they said some funny shit. then they did Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and i knew it was different. then the real anthrax came on and i was blown away. Caught In A Mosh and I Am The Law live. my first exposure to Anthrax and to any metal at all. it was the greatest thing to happen to me up to that point. went out and bought every tape i could find the next day. when i hear I Am The Law i still remember exacty what was going on and where i was the first time i heard it.

been metal ever since.

b.t.w. i was in the mall of america this past week and walked past this guy with a cool goatee. turned around and looked again and saw that it was Scott Ian. he was on his cell phone so i laid back for a minute until he was done. as soon as he hung up i went up to him. he is one honestly cool guy. i didnt want to waste a lot of his time so just shook his hand and told him he is the reason i am metal.

i met the man that helped change my life. still smiling about it.
