Hello everyone, I am fairly new to recording shows,... (read: i have never done it before) but i would really like to record the antimatter gig in Geel friday (if i get there).
How am i supposed to do it? What equipment do u use? (i guess with a md, and i have a couple of friends who have one, so that won't be a problem). Where to put the md (on stage or just in your hands,...). How/what/...,....?

So actually every usefull hint is very welcome, and if it works out well, i could post the results somewhere around here.

Thanks in advance!

Hi there :)
We've recorded an Anathema concert last year and the quality is perfect, really. We used a Mini Disk recorder. Just make sure that you record everything in stereo., and you need a proper microphone, that's really important. Maybe you have a band or one of your friends has one, then get a mike that the singer uses. I promise, you'll get a great sound.

Cheerz and I hope you all have fun at the show. Can't go to any gig. Have a drink for me :)

edit: those cables you need to plug it into the recorder might be the problem, we had to a an extra one

Minidisk rules!!!

But any tips putting it on CD are welcome... when I try there's a lot of noise...

The best would be to plug the MD to the mixing desk if all the instrument are amplified by the system...

Otherwise try to be in the center, try to put the mic the highest possible (on a cap by example! avoid to hold the mic in your hand) coz it wil prevent a mask from the peopl estanding in fornt of you and the direction of the mic has to be with an angle of around 30° from the horizontal to the ceiling...
Also try to avoid noisy people around you :)

If you don't have a good mic you can give up!!!!!

Yes, and if you get the mic and everything all set up, just make sure the plug is connected firmly. My friends were bootleggin Fantomas gig couple of years ago (fantastic concert btw!!) but they were too drunk to realise the plug wasn't all the way pushed in. They ended up with many many minutes off hissssssssss....

:D

I've got a lot of live shows, but I am no help as to what people use to record them, sorry. My friend I think uses some sort of digital recorder, its super tiny and light weight. :)

mp3recorder??? could be... but isn't it still expensive ???
You know, there are really tiny mics available, I've got a sony one and it's like 3cm on 1cm. And it's really good!!! And that is,'t "expensive" at all. If you look out you can find those mics for about 50€.

Mp3 for recording???? naaah!!

The best is MD player with a long play fonction :)
then you can record one gig on one MD without a loss of quality!!!

About mic, it's a really important stuffs!! if you haven't got a good mic then you're fucked up!!

mine is this one http://www.sel.sony.com/SEL/consumer/ss5/office/accessories/microphonesfordigital/ecm-717.shtml
and you have a really god quality with it but sometimes I'd like to have a better stereo... (I'm really asking a lot from tech I know!!)
