Innocent sounding music with a sinister edge

So this is kind of a specific request. I'm looking for music, not necessarily metal, that has a generally cute and innocent sound but has a sinister feel to it. The only bands I'm aware of with this sound are The Birthday Massacre, Stolen Babies and Battle of Mice. I also like the kind of surreal "Alice in Wonderland" vibe the first two bands give off, so if you know other bands like that, I'd appreciate the recs.

Also, this is similar but slightly different, I'd like some bands with the gothic Tim Burton/Danny Elfman type sound. I know most of you will hate me for saying this, but the closest sound to this I can find is Evanescence.

Female vocals are preferred in both cases but I'm open to male-fronted bands.

London After Midnight? One of my all-time favourite bands. I wouldn't classify their music as "cute" but I would say it has a sense of elegance to it while retaining a very dark edge, musically and lyrically.

LAM actually covered "Sally's Song."

Perhaps the experimental deathrock band Cinema Strange? I think they're fantastic but they're sort of hit and miss with people because of the over-the-top vocals.

You might also like Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble of Shadows.. Not exactly a "cute" figure but Anna-Varney has certainly lightened up a fair bit the last few years, showing a sense of humour. Some of the earlier material I would probably say is some of the darkest and atmospheric music I've heard, particularly on a visual and conceptual level. There's a strong classical sound, but it's all done in a very dark, gothic manner. It's not contrived of false in any way though, there's a very true underlying darkness integral to Sopor Aeternus.

Sopor Aeternus is one of my favourite musical projects, but I'd hardly call Anna-Varney's music "innocent sounding".
