Interesting Opeth review...

Actualy he is my best writer, and his reviews are very entertaining because you know he is going to speak his mind. His reviews of Anathema and In Flames are equally thought provoking.

I respect his opinion even if I don't agree with it. His honesty and no nonsense style is one of the things that impressed me.

“Harvest” is a poor man’s “Benighted”. While “Benighted” was a fabulous way for Still Life and the listener to catch a breather, “Harvest” is a fabulous way for the listener to catch a nap. The songs, “The Leper Affinity”, “The Drapery Falls”, “The Funeral Portrait” seem to drone on and on without one hook to grab the listener’s ear and pull him/her in. I officially crown “Dirge for November” the Worst Opeth Song Ever.

Blackwater Park: Worst. Opeth. Album.

:err: Harvest IMO is one of the best mellower songs Opeth have written, but yes I agree Benighted is better, but not much.
And no hook in The Drapery Falls, or The Funeral Portrait??? What was he thinking when he wrote this? Sleeping through the album or something? :bah:

Worst album ever?!?! BWP, IMO, put Opeth up to where it is now!!

Not happy.

lol too funny

ffs dreamlord wrote it what do you expect

if your goin to write a review at lesat make it objective, dont rave on about opeth fans boys waiting to suck mikael penis.... i mean that just takes the credability away from the review immediately

i knew it was dreamlord , b4 i even hit the link lol....opinons are opinons , shouldnt phase anyone. I just dont like it if he believes the only reason someone can like the albums after my arms your hearst , is because there an opeth fanboy. Thats absurd.

Eh I don't agree. There's certainly nothing wrong with a reviewer's personality coming out in their review but when I read Dreamlord's reviews I get the feeling he's trying too hard. The confrontational style he writes the bad reviews in and the "attitude" come off as really forced to me. Again I really don't mind that kind of writing style but his reviews to me just come off as really crude (especially the Eternity review), not very well thought-out and trying too hard to sound "cool." Also a really heavy use of annoying review cliches. His good reviews (by that I mean the reviews where he has a positive opinion of the album) don't suffer from as many of those problems, mostly just the not very well thought-out and cliche criticisms, and also I find his writing style in those to just be boring and uninteresting.

Also I know he's probably going to read this and take offense to it since I've flamed him in the past but I'm just giving my honest opinion and offering some constructive criticism.

edit: Forgot to mention the sometimes annoying tangents, like the fanboy mini-rant at the end of the Blackwater Park review.

Thank you for keeping it clean. Your comments have been well-accepted. :)

While i share his views on the album, that was just a plain shitty review. The way he presented it, the information given, and his horrible sense of essay format was pathetic at best.

I discreditate this so-called "reviewer" after 3 lines into the reading...
Indeed, very bad review...

Whoracle Review: "Fanboys will tell you that Whoracle “iz In Flames at their best. It rockzerz, dude”. Don’t listen to them. I mean c’mon, these are people who would lick the band member’s assholes if they ask them."

Blackwater Park Review: "But fanboys will be fanboys. Sometimes I wonder if these fanboys are actual fans of Opeth’s music, or fans of the band members just waiting to suck the proverbial cock of anything bearing the name of Opeth."

I have nothing against the ripping of absolute masterpieces, each reviewer has the right, but it seems to me like this guy is doing it for the sake of ripping absolute masterpieces, like he's trying to project this image of himself as some uber-objective entity capable of seeing through to the form of the music, like he's miles above the subjectivity inherent in being, god forbid, a fan of a band. Like, "This sucks, you just can't see it, cause you're a lowly Fanboy. And a homoerotic one, at that." It's off the charts, pretension-wise.

the funniest thing is that this guy is probably a fat over weight nerd who could achieve nothing of the sort.

yet pays out some of the most masterful releases as if they were child-like

Although I agree with the opinion that BWP is a shit album, I also agree with the comment made by Sacrilicious about the tangents and the reviewer trying too hard. It seems as if the negative stuff about the album was out of bitterness because it was a popular album..
