I use an Echo Layla 3G PCI interface. I have had it for quite some time and it's always worked pretty good. I recently purchased a new computer from a pro-audio builder and have been experiencing some software lock up issues.

I use Sonar X1E 64 bit.
I have all the latest revisions, software, drivers etc.

The builder suggested that the Echo may be a bit dated for today's computers and they may not work together well. He suggested I go with a modern USB interface.

First of all, is this plausible? Second, what would you suggest for a solid USB interface?

I only need a couple inputs for recording guitar DI's and vocals.

It's plausible, but it most likely means you have one of the older Corei# chipsets that had a "sensitive" PCIe bridge. The newer ones have fixed this issue.

The computer is like 2 months old. I don't think they would use any old technology in it. I will check the specs tonight.

Here are some specs:

Processor: 3.50GHz Intel Core i7-3770K (Ivy Bridge)
Motherboard: Intel Z77 Motherboard
