Interfaces

Even before I read this and looked at the products, I had done some research last year and bought a M-audio Firewire Audiophile as an inexpensive firewire interface. Its ok, it does audio and uses firewire. I have read & heard good things about the Edirol though. Specifically the UA, and it looks like a good unit out of the three. The M-Audio has effects, but to me personally though, that in itself wouldn't be deciding factor on how well a unit performs overall, so I would have to say the UA for USB. It really sometimes boils down to specs and hardware/software compatability as well as interface. Just based upon that and features, for me it would have to be the UA unless I wanted firewire. If I had or wanted a firewire 800 card, then I would consider the FA.

I'd go with the Fast Track Ultra if just for having the 4 mic preamps.
The onboard DSP is useless though. 2 independent headphone feeds/amps is nice.

The Edirol interfaces are good, but a few years old, FT Ultra is brand new.

Plus the M-Audio can be used with pro tools.
Personally I would try find a secondhand FP10 or something for similar price.
