Interview with Anders Fridén from Tartarean Desire

Egonomic, there are Bob the Builder toys in the next room, go play.

Anyway, I'm putting my input on this.
I don't want another Lunar Strain
I don't want another Jester Race
I don't want another Whoracle
I don't want another Colony
I don't want another Clayman
I don't want another Reroute to Remain

Why should the band do the same thing over and over? They don't have too, and obviously, they aren't going too anytime soon. Their choice and no one else's, they don't make you buy the albums, they don't make you buy their merch, they don't make you go to their shows, they don't make you listen to them.

In Flames = Nu Metal? Right, and Bush is finding those WMD's tomorow morning.

Band's don't need to relay on Classics unless they want their old fans.
Metallica are accused by some people that they sold out with Ride the Lightning, so I don't take the word Sellout very seriously.

Metallica need their old fans to keep selling out their shows. Most Metallica fans say "NO THEY ARE SELLOUTS" then singing along to St.Anger later on, I seen it myself when I seen Metallica in Augest.

Iron Maiden, they don't relay on classics either, they played 6 or 7 DOD songs when I seen them, not a lot of classics, but they done other tours with classics.. They give their fans best of both, I wanted to hear the new stuff as much as I want to hear the classics now.

I'm glad In Flames won't play Jester Race, why if they don't want too? To keep the fans happy? That sounds too much like Metallica.

I really do hope In Flames make, if they haven't already, an N*Flymz T-Shirt.

You people are stupid not for liking CoB but not for admitting they are just metal music for kids like you who like angsty lyrics, combined with lots of wanking. Please don't tell me about lyrics, vocals and drums when you are talking about Bodom because those are definitely the band's weakest points... I checked every CoB album out after Follow the Reaper's release, I saw them live at Tuska Festival which happens to be their rhythm guitarists' last appearence. Their music can be described in one, 6-lettered word: BORING... And Sephiroth your comparison of Death with Children of Bodom sucks... Death is about an ideal, about progression, about thoughtful lyrics, crushing riffs, incredible drums none of which Children of Bodom possesses... Children of Bodom is releasing the same album with different touches here and there since years for God's sake... Grow up, open your eyes or ears for that matter...

oh and next time come up with an argument, when you are trying to prove me wrong guys... go kill yourself and you should be beaten don't count though...

Ill just leave it be then, can't educate the ignorant. If you want to continue to think that way go on ahead. I don't want a dipshit like you listening to one of the greatest metal bands ever anyway.

INTERVIEW FROM THE FINNISH "SOUNDI" MAGAZINE

I'm not gonna translate the whole thing but here's a few bits n' pieces for ya.

---

Concerning the self-built studio in Denmark: The band decided against using a normal studio because working in that kind of environment feels too much like a daily job. In Flames have made all their earlier records using the same formula, thus they wanted to try something new this time. They aimed at a relaxing atmosphere and a possibility to "live with the music."

STYE vs. older albums: By listening to STYE, of course you'll notice how much we're evolved and got better over the years but if I went on bashing our old albums, it would be just wrong. Those record were made in circumstances of that time, and with resources of that time. And without our history we wouldn't be here today. Anders says the new album is heavier and tighter than it's predecessor even though the melodic side is still there. This time it's just more about guitars and riffs but it still sounds very In Flames. There's something we've learned with the last two albums: how to write songs from the live perspective. The songs must work well live, they must have the power and the dynamics. The live shows are after all the situation, where the band and the fans meet each other.

Concerning the album title: Actually we've composed a soundtrack for those folks who want to escape their own reality for a while. And then, those folks are compelled to listen to me complaining about different things on every song. Great! Fortunately, this time the songtexts don't have the suicidal atmosphere of the Clayman album, though!

In future, the band is planning to concentrate more on North America. In Flames are already reaching the peak of their popularity in Europe.

Anders describes American metal heads as more open-minded than Europeans.

Concerning his vocal style: the trick lies in using the diaphragm more than the throat, when singing.

Mexico has the craziest in Flames fans!

Sometimes the band receives complaints for not playing enough shows in their home country, Sweden. However, Anders wants their gigs to be special events, something people look forward to.

In Flames played 150 shows in the year 2000.

We're not trying to reach audiences or wondering what style of music might sell the best at the moment. It's up to audiences to come to where In Flames are, for In Flames isn't going to where the audiences are.

Anders likes horror films; he prefers old-school flicks to new "teeny-horror-massacre" movies.

The interviewer mentions that according to Jörg Michael (ex-Stratovarius) who has worked as In Flames' tour manager, the band likes to watch a lot of porn flicks when on tour. Anders laughs and confirms that.

Anders says that working with Passenger is relaxing because he gets to sing without screeching for once, and because the albums are produced in his own studio, thus there are no deadlines and no stress.
