Interviews with Kotipelto and Threshold

TIMO: Timo Tolkki has been working on songs and has written several so far. We really don’t have a time line for this one but I think we are shooting for it coming out in early 2008. The new stuff reminds me a lot of “Visions” and “Infinite”. Its sounding really good. The new stuff is not as bombastic as the “Elements” records. Also I really wasn’t too happy with the last album but then again at the time it was a miracle it even came out. Timo Tolkki just wasn’t feeling quite right yet. We are still on Sanctuary Records and they are supposed to be putting out the new Stratovarius but who knows what’s going on with that things change every day.

Not to single out Timo, but why do artists change their sound and say at the time how great it is, but then later on if the album flops with the fans, they say it was a bad idea and the old sound is better?

Wasn't it a condition of Kotipelto coming back that they weren't going to just make a bombastic double-bass album again? Not that I'm complaining, that's what makes Stratovarius so cool, their speed and melody, which was lacking on the last album. Just bothers me to see them flip-flop like politicians.

Now the Scorpions, they were upfront and honest when they made Eye II Eye, which was a huge departure from their classic sound. They made it, waited no more than 30 days before pronouncing it crap, and proceeded to play maybe one song from that album on the very tour where they were promoting that album.:)
