From my own experiences of introducing Symphony X to people, Sea of Lies is the number one song that people immediately get hooked to.

so have u shown your guitar teacher symphony x by now? if so, how'd he react? and yes i agree w/ ppl here in saying 'sea of lies' is the song to show someone who hasn't heard symphony x before. it's a good song length and demonstrates their instrumental metal style very, very well.

If someone was actually interested in hearing something from Symphony X, I'd start with Sea Of Lies, then show the more mellow side with Communion or Paradise Lost and finally hit with the trump card, The Odyssey...
