Have anyone tried out impulses of preamps and comps like API 512, Urei, LA, etc. Does it sound good or anything like the original?

I use them ocasionally. I can't really answer the question of do they sound like the originals but they can add a very usable character to the sound.
I never use them to try and fix a bad sound, I'll use them on a good sound just to add a little color. I also almost always use a bass cab impulse on DI'd bass, that works great.
