The evil that men do lives on and on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crack up some Seventh Son. Come on people, anybody else thinks Maiden was the greatest band out there (Opeth notwithstanding).

just one correction, they were not... thay ARE!

I seriously doubt that. Their best years are way past them IMO.

I agree with that... but... after Bruce came back it was great again, Brave New World is a great album... but the older days where bether ofcourse...

I used to be obsessed with them a few years but they got kinda stale pretty quickly. Dunno, they use the same kinda formula for everysong: Same chord progression, melody harmonized up a third and lyrics based on some movie or book. Nowdays I respect them more for their influence than their actual songs.

Killers is their best LP hands down! Nothing after that even came close. The Bruce stuff up through Powerslave is good to excellent, but after that, they became a shadow of their former selves. I saw Maiden with Halford and Queesryche last year. Queensryce might have been the worst show (talentless) I've ever seen, Maiden was ok but Halford DESTROYED them all:goggly: !

At last someone is mentioning the best band ever on this board. I love, no, worship Maiden and have done so for a long, long time. My favorite CD has to be Powerslave. Or The Number Of The Beast. Or Piece Of Mind. Or Somewhere In Time. Or Killers....

Though my interest in Iron Maiden has faded over the years, there is nothing like putting on a classic Iron Maiden album during a party!! Everybody gets bangin' and singin' and yellin' and drinking even more....:hotjump:

i have noticed that effect to :)
it kinda sets more spice to the party, a great feeling when everybody sings along to it and just go in to extacy

Of course, Iron Maiden is the greatest. Mabey not the BEST, which is determined by opinion. And to some extent GREATEST would be subject to opinion also. But Iron Maiden is THE most influential metal band of our time. Thrash, power, heavy, prog, death... you can hear their presence in just about any genre (with an exception to many black metal bands). Black Sabbath may have created metal, but Iron Maiden certainly defined it! Its the same situation as the Mayhem-Emperor case. Sure Mayhem might have been the first real black metal band (excluding proto-black metal bands like Bathory), but Emperor is the most eminent.

Thank you,

Ihsahn

iron maiden is a major influece on the genre we listen to, like opeth. transylvania is my fav maiden song. sorry forgot how to spell my fav song.

I've never given Iron Maiden much attention...
They sound boring to me...
Was great fun watching them live though...
Could hardly see a thing, but luckily the singer
(no, don't know any names!!!) climbed up
where all the lights are >:oP
He still looked like an ant though! hehe...

I disagree. Maiden just seems to be a lot more polished on their new album. I kinda like it better than the old stuff

Dickinsons solo stuff sounds a bit gay pardon my french, i heard 2 songs yesterday and its basically soft rock, which dont mean its bad, but it just sounds poor.

That must have been his stuff with Skunkworks, or the 'Tattooed Millionaire' era stuff. His last 2 albums (with Adrian) are basically a more direct version of Maiden, and rock hard.

Maiden rule!

Question for everyone, though. Did you like Blaze? I thought X-Factor was brilliant. Maybe not in the context of Iron Maiden, but if you approach that album as Doom Metal, it actually really works. And Blazes rendition of 'The Evil That Men Do' live (on one of their singles, I forget which) was totally crushing.

given the bands around today (opeth being the obvious example), Iron Maiden falls short of the metal average, because let's face it: they're a little outdated.

BUT: it is my firm belief that Iron Maiden is responsible, almost single-handedly, for the "metal" genre we know and love.

without Iron Maiden, there'd be no Opeth... besides which, they're still pretty damn cool.

Finally some posts giving Maiden some praise on this forum! True metal would be completely different today if it weren't for them. Iron Maiden was one of the first metal bands I got into and I believe they are entirely resonsible for the entire evolution of my musical taste. Anyone who claims to enjoy melodic, harmony-driven metal, including Opeth, must RESPECT IRON MAIDEN!!!
