As I said in another thread now I'm again in command of my collection, so I starting to review lots of albums I hadn't hear in months as I was moving out of USA back to Costa Rica. Also of course hearing the new stuff to get acquainted with it a bit more.

Yesterday in the middle of a chat I made a joke and Angelwitch73 decided to play "Powerslave", so i decided to play "Killers".

"Killers" was heard for the first time at the begining of 1984 in my old house. I was bran new into college and a guy I met there (now my dear old friend Darren) was also into metal and with access to a huge vinyl collection. So he was my provider (you know the doctor for the junkie :Smokedev: ) of lots of music in the beginning. That day 20 years ago he landed at home with Def Leppard "High'N'Dry" and Iron Maiden "Killers". It was my first with Dianno and frankly it blew me off my socks.
Yesterday when I play it again it was like a wiper of time, 20 years and still makes me shiver. From the elegance of the intro "The Ides Of March" to the the fucking awsome 'Purgatory' (if that ain't power metal...:headbang: ). From the energetic 'Wratchild' to the beautiful 'Prodigal Son', from the tilte track to the highly melodic 'Twilight Zone'. I mean the album may have some fillers but they are so good that no one noticed :loco:

Ain't great when an album can still move you as good as the day you first heard it?

We are the oldschool, we lived the best of times, we are the blessed ones.

I agree. I find that there a re a LOT of albums from back then that stand the test of time. Also, you used to get an album of mostly good songs, and MAYBE a couple of filler tunes... these days, I find myself thiniking that I got a good CD if it has 3 or 4 good songs on it!

We DID live in the best time for music... NO DOUBT about it! :worship:

Cheers!
:headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

i love that album, my favoritte song is purgatory, i never get tired of it, maybe one day well live those days again, well i hope so, thats why im trying so hard to do it, and my friends we shall rise from the dead to recover what belongs to us.
we hope eddie helps us.

You have to mention 'Women in uniform" , that song kicks ass . Their 1st two albums are as good as anything Dickenson sang in. I hate Blaze Bailey though , I don't even have a Maiden album with him singing. Your leadsinger and leadguitarist are irreplaceable in a band. I think only Bruce Dickenson and Brian Johnson ever pulled that one off sucessfully.Still Paul rocked!! :headbang:

Killers is number 5 in my top 5 Maiden albums of all time. Seventh Son being first, the self titled album being numer 2, Powerslave being number 3 and Number Of The Beast being number 4. Killers is awesome. Not a bad song on the album, even the songs alot of people view as filler. "Purgatory" is an underrated gem and so is "Genghis Kahn".

Says it all right there!!

Great post Wyvern! Killers is indeed a great album, but even better I like hearing stories like that, of how you first heard this great album. We should all post a litlle more about stuff like this. We need a "Great Metal Moments" thread.... :)

I was addicted to Murders in the rue morgue for a long time. It's easily one of my fav maiden songs ever.

Killers is a great album, Although I probably do prefere the Self titled, much more atmospheric, I thought so anyway, it sets the perfect scene for some of the songs.

Killer is one of their best, no doubt. Di'anno was perfect for the total NWOBHM atmosphere of the first two albums, they both flat out rocked.

Great post Wyv ! Killers is a great album and also one of my favourite IRON MAIDEN releases (of course along with "Powerslave"). It certainly means that an album is GREAT when it does move you many years later.

Drifter rules too!

I saw them in those days, a whopping 4 times!! "Iron Maiden" and "Killers" are among my favorite Maiden albums. In fact "Iron Maiden" is my favorite one! There I said it!! I guess I am the only one in the world who likes that album the best!

In that time Paul Dianno was a fantastic frontman and a great singer. Ove the years I have learned to appreciate Bruce. But Dianno has been the shit for me for a very long time. :headbang:

Murders in the Rue Morgue
someone call the Gendarmes
Murders in the Rue Morgue
run before the killers go freeeee....

hell yes!! One of my favorites too!:headbang:

Yes, "Murders in the Rue Morgue" is my favorite "killers" song. Of course you all know that this songs was based on a story by Edgar Allen Poe don't you? ;)

A little fact from those days. Steve Harris and Paul Dianno told me that they did not want to play "too loud" for their audience. Their concert sound in those days was very clear, but not as loud as other bands when played!

I am on a mission of mercy
I've got to testify
Your lost in emotion
Your Paralyzedyayaya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I might have to disagree about the lead guitarist be irreplacable. Janik did a great job for Maiden, but then in 99 Adrian came back and the band became a 6 piece. Back on topic. Killers is a great album. I have the MacFarlane sculpture and a Killers belt buckle. Freakin awesome.

Yes, I did know that! Being the big Poe fan that I am, I SHOULD know that!

Really? That's kinda weird that they didn't want to play loud, seeing how it's Iron Maiden and all.

Wyvern .. im Costa Rican/American ... I'm more of a Bruce Fan... always have been.. he has more range.. though i like Dianno as well... my fave maiden album of all time is without a doubt Live After Death even though its a live album.. they by far play their songs better live then the recording itself...

1. Live After Death
2. Number of the Beast
3. Somewhere in Time
4. Seventh Son of the Seventh Son
5. Powerslave
