Is e-bay a good place to buy music from?

I've never used ebay before, so I decided to look around, and I found a couple of albums I'd like to get. But I've never used it, is it just like amazon? Do a lot of people get ripped off by others?

I've bought a few things off there and i live all the way over here in New Zealand and have never had problems. You just have to be careful who you buy from, make sure they have good feedback and ratings etc.

Yeah I had lots of qualms about using eBay because just after I joined I got ripped off. As long as you look at their feedback rating and read the descrption really carefully you should be right.

I've bought and sold many cheap and expensive things on eBay and only ever had a couple of non-paying bidders. Many CD sellers on eBay do large volumes of discs and the last thing they want is to get their feedback spoiled by ripping people off for small change.

I think it really depends on the seller. I just ordered Drudkh's "Autumn Aurora" from a really nice guy, who sent the package out the day after I ordered it, and I received it very quickly. Yeah, like I said, it depends on the seller... so check their history, ratings, and all that jazz.

You can't look at eBay as one entity and say it's good or bad. You have to look at it on a per-seller basis. If you find sellers with a good feedback rating who are offering things at reasonable prices then yes ofcourse it is a good place to buy music from. For one thing because it is pretty much the only place where you have any chance of finding hopelessly out of print items.

I highly recommend it, pretty much the only way I buy cds anymore. I've yet to get ripped off.

My advice, buy from 'stores' and make sure they give a discount on shipping then buy in bulk. If you take the time to shop around the different stores you can usually wind up paying on average 11$ canadian per cd (about 10$ american) which is a good price when your buying euro imports and other rare cds.

Few days ago I just got 5 cds - Genesis foxtrot, rush 2112, My Dying Bride like gods of the sun, mad season and godspeed you black emperor slow riot all for 54$ canadian (48 US). And its nice when it comes in the mail, like a birthday gift:)

I prefer amazon, but ebay is good if you seek the best value.
Good deals are to be had.

Most sellers are pretty legit; but if you care about LP/cd editions or the labels that issued them, do read the descriptions very, very carefully! Make sure the edition of the cd is clearly stated (i.e. original Deathlike Silence Productions Anti-Mosh 006, 1994).

Some sellers may list an album as a "European import" when in fact they're overcharging you for a shitty Russian re-pressing. I got semi-ripped off by this one seller who claimed:
THIS IS A REAL CD , SILVERPRESS, ABSOLUTELY NOT ACDR OR A CHEAP BURNED CD, SO BID WITH NO FEAR. THE CD IS NEW NEVER BEING PLAYED THIS MIGHT BE YOUR LAST CHANCE,BID BEFORE ITS TO LATE!! WE DONT SELL RUSSIAN CRAP CD ALL OUR PRODUCTS ARE WARRANTY CONVINE SHIPPING SAVE MONEY ASK FOR GREAT RATES WE SHIP WORDWIDE the cd is new sealed
Not a lie per say, but it turned out to be a Mexican pressing. :erk:

Yeah, be careful about any sellers from Russia or any Asian countries. Infact, I would go so far as to say just do not buy anything from anyone in those countries ever. Chances are like 50/50 you're going to be ripped off with a bootleg or a Russian release of the album you thought you were buying.

Yeah forgot to warn about the Russian prints, order from them and you'll get a lot of ruskie writing on the cd. One cool thing about the russian cds I got, on the shiny side of the disc, around the outer edge was like a holographic image of the album artwork, pretty fancy looking.

My boyfriend had a CD come from Russian that he ordered off eBay. He waited about 2 months for it to come, then had to go to the post office and fill out paperwork to pick it up! The packaging was interesting though.

Ebay is a superb place to buy cds people need to chill out, theres alot of decent sellers on the bay.
