Hoglan was an inspiration. But I vote for Thomas fucking Lang these days. No, he's not metal, he's just god in general, like Zeus, of all things. I've never been floored before like I was when I watched his DVD.

He and Lang are working associates however, so it does seem at times like they've picked up tricks from each other. Marco's good, real good, I dont see him, or anybody, topping Lang.

Marco smokes at his independance, but Lang's got even more command than Marco, with his "multi pedal orchestrations" and that double kick on the block ostinato bullshit... its just fuckin ridiculous.

I love Gene, but Gene cant hang with multi pedal ostinatos and pull the ridiculous independance that Lang's got. There's a world of music outside of metal, and some of those guys, can kick the fucking shit out of the best the metal world has to offer. Those guys go by the names of Thomas Lang, Marco Minneman, and Steve Smith. Gene's great. Like I said, Gene was an inspiration.. but those three would pick him out of their fucking teeth homeboy.

This thread is about the best drummer "in the world". Lang could pull off anything Hoglan or Laureano could do. There is no best metal drummer. Because some idiots think speed is king, and this would become an eternal argument from there. Mickelson is probably the closest thing out there right now. Bobby Jarzombek. Sein Reinert.

Even someone like Anders Jivarp, who isnt the fastest or whatever, but has loads of taste and enough "musicality" to know what goes where.
