alright sm7b came in the mail today! ill update you guys on how things play out with just the m-aud preamp

wow! this is such a step up from the previous mic we were using!

turns out we dont need to buy preamp just yet, its perfectly loud enough.

sounds so clear and pristine for singing i love it!

also picks up all the subtle noises for screaming that are needed!

I was really close to getting an AT3035, but Murphy talked me into the SM7 and it turns out he really *is* never wrong.

Just got my own SM7B this afternoon and while there's not much to talk about because of the fact I've used them before in studios I can still say that I'm surprised that my Mbox2 has enough gain to drive it (and I'll be damned if I can hear any noise...)

I use My SM7b thru my GT Brick. And it has plenty of gain...the brick has +55db's of gain.....while that might not be enough gain to do speech's or broadcasting.....It's plenty for Male Screaming/Death Vocals....As long as the singer has balls and he is right up in the mic...
i take my windscreen off and use my own pop filter and i usually tell the singer to almost put his lips on the pop filter.

so yeah...

my vocalist just got a sm7b but we dont have a preamp with high enough gain let alone clean enough.

so we are wondering if we could run the mic through our yam. emx5000 with rca cables into my m-audio 10/10lt?

would it provide sufficient gain?

would it just be a bad idea all around?

or should i just save some cash up for a decent mic pre with high enough?

OR is there a plugin that might help with the low output problem?
