You should cut the guitars!
I sounds like the bass is the loudest element in the mix! You maybe want to turn up the drums, especially the cymbals! Crank some highs into them (15k should do)!
Is right guitar louder then the left one?!

Cool cool, thanks for input guys. We are actually going to retrack the guitars (get better takes and use new strings etc) and I will definitely be editing them (didn't bother with scratch guitar tracks you are hearing).

The bass thing is interesting - still learning the balance on my monitors, I will tame it a bit.

The same for the cymbals, I'll bring those up when I re-mix and go from there.

Listening back, do you think I've over-compressed the drums? All feels like it could breathe a bit more, feels overly squashed.

always use new strings and intonated guitars
well, what pair of monitors do you got? i found that balancing the bass on monitors with to less bass is the hard way to do it, headphones can help!
this compressed sound you mentioned could also be a faux pas. it sounds opener when you get every instrument in it's frequency range.
