Yeah, so we still have a few months left in the year, and I'm starting to wonder what I missed that was really worthy of my attention. Have a few that still stand up after all this time, but not as many as I'd like. So, tell me my fellow music fans, what have been the albums that most moved you this year? Metal, ambient, industrial, noise, whatever... tell me your favorites.

Current 93 - Black Ships ate the Sky
Negura Bunget - OM
Harvey Milk - Special Wishes
Comets on Fire - Avatar
Circulus - Clocks are like People
Bardo Pond - Ticket Crystals
The Melvins - A Senile Animal
Giant Squid - Metridium Field
Six Organs of Admittance - The Sun Awakens
Sunn O)))/Boris - Altar

there's 10 of 'em, for starters

The new Killswitch is better than The End of Heartache, thats for sure.

Still doesn't touch Alive or Just Breathing or the Self-titled though.

Thanks for listing stuff that you have yet to hear! So few people are able get a feel for an album without actually giving it a listen...Bravo!

Drudkh is my favourite thus far.

I liked Devins solo record too, I thought it explored some new ground, which I liked.

I think the Acoustic Verses by Green Carnation was a 2006 release too, so it's definately up there.

Ihsahns The Adversary was a great record too.

Decapitated released an onslaught with Organic Hallucinosis, and they were intense when I saw them in may.

Witchery's Don't Fear the Reaper kicked a whole bunch of ass, I thought.

The new Cannibal Corpse (Imaginatively titled KILL) was ace.

Celtic Frost, Sadus, Sodom, Vader, Katatonia and Amon Amarth get honourable mentions.

Non-metal-wise, I thought the Flaming Lips, The Kooks, The Futureheads, David Gilmour, Eileen Rose, Dirty Pretty Things, Muse and the Mars Volta released good records - Especially the ever beautiful and entertaining Eileen Rose.

Mammatus - s/t

oh snap. That's an '06 release? I assumed I was late to the party in finding out about it. OK, that deserves a spot in the top dozen or so.

so you really liked that Six Organs?

I'll have to give it a go then.

I still haven't listened to that new Circulus yet. Fuck.

Yes, the Six Organs, musically, blows away all previous outings. By incorporating new styles (ranging from psych rock to ennio morricone), it displays a musical maturation. In this regard it is also lacking the flow of his previous albums, because the tracks just feel thrown together, but it is a step in the right direction.

The Circulus is impressive. It employs a somber seriousness that is all new, but still manages to keep a light air about it.

some runner up albums

Hammers of Misfortune - The Locust Years: contains perhaps the two greatest songs of the year: Trot out the Dead and the title track, but the rest of the album doesn't reach these peaks

Devin Townsend Band - Synchestra: The second half of the album is spectacular, if only the first half stood up to it's amazingness, albeit still quite great and definitely solid.

Tool - 10,000 Days: ehh, it faded away ............
