Never had a problem with itunes and I love it.

I don't really understand how you can have "issues" with it. it plays music,movies and games, or you buy shit off it....what's there to fuck up?

Well it doesn't seem expandable with plug-ins for one. I have a ton of .spc files on my drive waiting to be listened to and I can't play them through iTunes. Aside from that it runs quite slow on PCs - a real resource hog.

Apart from that it's all good.

There is quite a lot of plugins for Mac, downloaded some yesterday. Also genious has been working really well for me (its better if you have a big diverse library). Imagine it shuffling songs for you that are kind of similar genre wise.

it's the same as the "gay compressor thingy" in WMP... you simply turn it off.

if you have them all turned off, then it's your speaker system. look, there are several pros here using iTunes, for referencing mixes against other mixes and for personal listening.... do you really think that wouldn't be heard if it existed? that is NOT happening from iTunes as long as Sound Enhancer & Sound Check are turned OFF. if you have them off and it's still happening, then it's somewhere else in your system, end of discussion.

a little common sense should tell you that the pros on here wouldn't use iTunes, and nor would anyone else, if it did anything of the sort. it doesn't, so go peddle that bill of goods elsewhere.

sorry for hitting a nerve, i was simply stating that i've tried turning everything off in the past and its not solved the problem, having said that, i never really use Itunes, other than on the macs at college. i just downloaded it and i'm not having any problems so i do apologize.

and i'm not stupid enough to think if a noob like me can hear something no one else can, especially you and other pros on the forum. I'd be worried if my common sense was that bad.

as me not liking the program, its just a personal preference

I LOVE Quicktime, it's the best! It's all integrated in OSX. iTunes rules the world and it's the best! When I was on the windows platform I also hated Quicktime cus I didn't know better.. We all know that all music recorded on a Macintosh sounds better than on a PC because on the mac we have some special super giga hardware that makes the drum trigger software handle the 16th notes on the kick drums much softer and smoother with better gain.. yeah!

I'm a Mac user since some years back.

One thing I noticed on a newly installed iTunes was that everything seems to sound pretty bad. I made mixes and listened to them in iTunes and didn't recognize my mix.

I found out that it had a "Sound Enhancer" turned on by default. I dunno what music will sound better with it ON but in my genre everything was asweful.

go check it out all of you..
it's under Edit -> Preferences -> Playback.

I love Apple and all their ways to help the user by making the softwares easier to use, but this feature was bad to put 'on' by default.

I guess by this post I will put more fuel on the "Mac vs. PC" touch of this thread.. Sorry about that..

as everyone here knows... by my postings in this thread so far, if not for my long history in this forum in general as an advocate... i love my apple... and i love iTunes..

iTunes8 is no exception, i really like the new view and sorting features....


BUT....


i have to admit an uneasy feeling about some of the features that have been "dumbed down"... requiring "under the hood" tinkering now to achieve a result that was, just one version ago, possible by making a simple menu selection..., and some that are just outright missing now.

first, regarding the little "store arrows"... that used to be a simple menu option, but now you have to tinker with Terminal and enter line commands to disable it?? and what happed to the ability to convert ID3 tag formats, once easily accomplished under the advanced menu?? that shit is just gone now.

i can live without it, but it does not bode well for the future of iTunes if they continue on this route.

i am hopeful that this is just a slight misstep on Apple's part, and that customer feedback (i've already sent mine) will make them understand that castrating iTune's extended funciontality and dumbing it down to a glorfied piece of adware is NOT the way to go.

so far, though i'm not happy with those two issues, they are not enough to put me off iTunes, as i still feel it is the most powerful, organized, and elegant way to handle a large media library that exists which can be had for free... and i don't know of any you can pay for that are better, either. but these two little issues have got me on my guard now....i will be more cautious about upgrading in the future, and i will... if apple heads down the wrong path with iTunes... abondon it for a compeitor product.

i hope that doesn't happen.... and i admit the arrow thing and the id3 tag conversion are minor, if not entirely esoteric, issues.

I got rid of the little iTunes store arrows by "hiding" the store under the parental settings. I don't really use iTunes store for anything other than artwork really so its no big deal for me. I like tidying up the stuff on the left I don't use anyway and have the store disabled anyway.

I think the list with the album covers view is a lot better than before, much more like the regular list and easier on the eye. Grid view is cool too, its good for finding albums you may have forgotten about.

hiding the srore entirely is not an option for me.... i use it to find and download both podcasts and iPhone Applications, and even the occasional movie or TV show.... i just didn't want the little arrows appearing in the playlists. that used to be quite easy to disable via a simple menu selection. now you have to run a line command in Terminal. not at all happy with that.... not because it was hard to do; it was easy actually, but because it bodes ill for the direction aopple may be taking iTunes.

Would your concern be the need for command-line use? I personally prefer command lines for everything but I can certainly see why that wouldn't sit well with most people - and I'm surprised something like that would happen at all.

Before there was iTunes, there were two main music player apps on the Mac - Audion and SoundJam MP. Apple bought SoundJam MP, and the company that made it, and turned SoundJam MP into iTunes.

Audion was my favorite - it was far superior in every way - but unfortunately the company (Panic) gave up on it because they felt it was impossible to compete with iTunes. I highly suggest everyone read the story of Audion:

I miss Audion. It was better than iTunes is today on a lot of different levels. I wish it would come back. But iTunes is the next best thing.
