J.'s Can-I-be-old-school-like-all-of-you haul?

The production is certainly heavier than any Maiden except maybe Powerslave (hard to beat the riffs on that beast), although for me the heaviest tracks on CW tend to be the least interesting, except Book Of Thel, which rules all. And lyrics? No question that Blake towers over Harris. :)

There was something wrong about Metal Church back in the day. Just when Metallica were on top of the world, you get this band's videos come out on Headbangers Ball where the lead vocalist also plays the exact same Gibson Explorer as James Hetfield and you think....rip off! I think people dismissed them too easily because of that.
False. Do not rewrite history. Neither of Metal Church's vocalists played guitar. And anyone that says their debut is better than Blessing In Disguise is a deaf queef. But that argument basically boils down to which vocalist you prefer and in my book, Mike Howe is far superior to David Wayne....

Elektra Records can be blamed for trying to package Metal Church and Flotsam and Jetsam like Metallica. Hell, even Overkill's guitarist played the same guitar.

both those are better than the latest one which is hugely disapointing
they should fuck newsted out (if they haven't already) and let him get another 'pet' project
What a fucking queef....

Newsted is what brought the band back together and gave them a label to release their shit properly. I still listen to that album on a monthly basis.

Well, their whole gimmick was the Gibson Explorer either way. I mean, back then, only one person played that post-Scorpions and it was Hetfield, so when you see another US metal band exploit it to the nth degree, it looks dodgy. Nowaday of course, everyone plays it, including the guy in No Doubt.

etc.

As for re-writing history....are my forum posts that significant?! :loco:

It's true. Chemical Wedding is heavier than anything Maiden
have ever done.
Maybe I need to give CW another spin, but I know it didn't put those neck muscles into overdrive like the first three Maiden albums can. The Number Of The Beast, now THAT puts the Heavy into Heavy Metal, the way it should be!

Heavier = darker, slightly muddy "wall of sound" approach, and quite possibly lyrically superior.
I still can't get over "The moon is sub-divided..." :Spew:

Is it better than anything Maiden have done? Well, that's a question for the ages.
At the end of the day it's my obligation to put forward the case for Maiden! :D

thats as maybe but
its not a bad album, but it had the potential to be much more
what newstead did or at least contributed too was the simplification of things, even angel rat is more identifiable as voivod
with that album they lost some identity

but fair play to him for not being a sell out and taking some shitty job playing bass for ozzy or something
