Every city has a ghetto part...even small towns.
Now, all you people arguing about who is more ghetto, stfu. Go to the ghetto in New Orleans if you wanna see a nasty place to live. I mean, come on people. The refugees from New Orleans alone increased the crime rate in the cities they were displaced to around the country. That should say something right there.
It's easy to say, "Yeah, don't go there at night, you'll get shot!"...but you know what? Usually it's not fucking true and exaggerated. In New Orleans, IT'S FUCKING TRUE, AND YOU WILL GET SHOT/RAPED/ROBBED/ALL OF THE ABOVE.
I didn't grow up in a ghetto but I've always known that the ghettos in NOLA are the worst place in America to live. We were never proud to say we lived close to them. We were never proud to say, "our city and surrounding area has the highest crime rating in the country, and has had for a long, long time." It's just how it was and we kept living our lives. Do you think that since the CITY COUNCIL voted NO to rebuild the ghettos around NOLA, leaving thousands and thousands of people homeless that it
just might have been pretty bad? It's so bad that they would rather catch heat from the entire nation for letting them remain homeless than let all those fucking scum rebuild their houses where they were. They don't want them to rebuild because when a cancer is cured, whether by surgery or by some act of nature/miracle/God (read: Hurricane Katrina), you don't inject cancer back into that same body. No, you let it die and try to forget about it and move on with your life.
New Orleans is the American murder capital, and it has been for a long time. Fact. I'm proud to be from Louisiana because we have a really strange mixed culture of African, European (real European descendants who have kept their language and dialect, not hippie wannabes from California who claim to be "the closest thing to a European city" because they check for fuel emissions), and Caribbean, and some of the best food in the entire country...no...some of the best food in the entire world. THAT'S what I'm proud of. I used to go the middle of NO all the time, Baton Rouge too, which at one time was worse than NO. Getting shot was never on my mind because I didn't go to the hood. If you swim with sharks, eventually you're gonna get eaten. It's not something anyone should be proud of nor, conversely, be called out for simply to try and see who has the biggest ghetto cock.
To be honest, I'd rather do what Bruce Willis did in Die Hard 3 when he wore the "I hate my pals" sign in the middle of Harlem before I set foot in the docks district in NOLA being a white boy. As Americans, we're so competitive, even with our misery. Americans would rather be MORE miserable than someone else just to say they're MORE of something, even if it's something like getting shot. That's like being proud because you're dumber than everyone else, and you're simply proud of it because it's something you have more of.
Here you go, murder capital of the US:
http://www.nola.com/news/index.ssf/2008/11/new_orleans_has_highest_crime.html#
What's worse?
NEW ORLEANS HAS THE THIRD HIGHEST MURDER RATE IN THE WORLD. CAN EVERYONE NOW STFU AND GET BACK TO POSTING MEAT AND TITTIES?
Detroit, Baltimore, Philly, L.A., NYC, and Houston can lick our fucking nutsack with their Fisher-Price crime ratings. The difference between us and everyone else is the fact that we're not proud to have a city filled to the brim with stupid my pals and white trash who kill 95 people per every 100,000.
You want misery? Come to the Big Easy.
