you cant compare someone like jeff to jimi hendrix. the only thing they have in common is the eflat tuning
they being super talented guitar players isnt another common thing?

I don't understand why you guys can dare doing such a thing as comparisons between guitarists. You can't compare guitarists. I also don't think Influence makes a guitarist. What makes a guitarist is his ability to create his own style.

Totally. I mean, unless you are comparing Neil Peart to Yngwie Malmsteen (Peart being the better guitarist), then there is just no point.

both my supervisors at my work tried to tell me (until they were blue in the face) that jimi hendrix was the best that ever lived...even after I played a number of solos from various nevermore albums....

Where's Metalkingdom when you need him?

one things for sure loomis is the hotter guitarist.

...Vague statement.
Consider, Jeff has 35 years of influence and technology
to pick from to put into his own playing. In the scientific and engineering community one has tables and proven formulas to rely on. It's like saying who is the "hotter" scientist, the one who invented the A-bomb or the one who made it more efficient.
Go on over to your nearest college and take the placement test...without the calculator provided.

I think that aside from completely different musical style, you also have to consider the different era. Hendrix was there at the begining of rock and roll with the most origional and talented style of guitar playing. Hes' influnced guitarists who've influnced more guitarists who've influenced more down the line. The fact is, Loomis's guitar playing may be totally amazing, but the metal shredding is nothing new.

because we obviously need more cowbell.

That's fucking funny! Just watched that skit on youtube not even an hour ago.

I'm not even gonna chime in on this one. The only thing I'll say is if Jimi was still alive, he'd almost certainly be a fan of Loomis'.
