jeff loomis vs. jimi hendrix

...Vague statement.
Consider, Jeff has 35 years of influence and technology
to pick from to put into his own playing. In the scientific and engineering community one has tables and proven formulas to rely on. It's like saying who is the "hotter" scientist, the one who invented the A-bomb or the one who made it more efficient.
Go on over to your nearest college and take the placement test...without the calculator provided.

geez whats up your ass? take a chill pill LOL get over it... and yer if it makes you feel better then to me its common sense that Loomis is just the better guitarist and i also dont think people should compare loomis to hendrix either since they're so different in style and era and genre etc etc. (but im just saying since you ARE comparing them, Loomis is much better imho) is that okay to say? i mean.. can i post this without you calling me STOOPID again?

So, I am gonna get bashed for this, I am sure.

I listened to "Are you Experienced" and "Electric Lady Land" in their entirety after reading this post. For my tastes, there are a couple good songs.

Everyone goes ape shit over Hendrix, I still don't know why... I listen, again and again.... Sure he pioneered the feedback, god that rocked! But to say he was a guitar god, I am still not buying that.

Before you bash me as a 19 yo emo, realize I'm 40 and was turned on to Hendrix at age 6 by my older brother. I dig some of his music, but cmon, it's not metal, nor is it the roots of metal. It is feedback, blues, feedback, blues.

You cannot compare Jeff and Jimi in the same token, totally different styles and totally different era's. Hendrix was no where near as fast as Jeff, and Jeff is no where near as creative (sorry Loomie).

In my mind, Loomis slays Hendrix. Period.

Let the bash fest begin....

hell yeah!

and it's not his "playing" I'm fond of, it's his style and innovation

Of course as far as I'm concerned shredding does not worthwhile music make.

see, it's a preference thing. It's understandable why metalheads aren't into it, so no one expects them to be.

and that's where problems come in, everyone thinks they're comparing the same things, but they're not at all, and people are taking their own distinct style preferences into account. Won't ever work out in that context

it just occured to me that labeling something as feedback, blue, feedback, blues make me appreciate it even more hahaha.

So I'm not big on all of jimi's stuff, I'll say. Him playing Machine Gun is one of the greatest things to my ears, of all time, I do admit.

And I also believe there were players of his era that could have been better, but it's mostly about his influence that gets people on. His real influence is in the sound of music (the hills are alive), and it just so happened his method of carrying it out was through the form of a guitar. But it's not like I was around back then so what do I know.

I think "stupid" would apply if you were to assume I called you stupid from a simple comparison paragraph which DIDN'T even have YOU in the topic. You got 2 examples in that paragraph which are supportive. Taking a math test would be a bitch if you didn't have modern technology, right. And, which is greater...the teacher or the student who excelled. So, YOU take the pill. No comment on the "ass" portion of your reply. You're reveling a Freudian inferiority trait which I choose not to capitalize on...at this time.

But Dude...WHAT IF Jimi heard someone like Jeff...would he speed up?
You'd puke if you heard the influences of Jimi. Most aren't even rock.

But the people that influenced him are EVEN better. You are talking about artists like Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, and Hell, probably Eric Clapton.

At the time, there were no players like Jeff. Jimi's influences were all blues men. Nothing bad there but Shred had not been invented..... Blues is all feel, slow and ballsy. Great sounds indeed, but not shred.

I wouldn't say it's all blues. There's a ton of psychedelia influence in his music and writing, along with R&B and just...soul...his influences were far more wide ranging than just blues.

...just imagine Jimi with some Digitech shit though man. And the amps these days along with the ability in digital for editing. Hell, Jimi coudle even find a right-handed Strat ;)

Actually, I like Jeff better than Jimi and think he is a more complete writer...but we didn't get much from Jimi in that short time period to compare with.

Opps, mistype. [ couldn't ]...Freudian slip

I bet Jimi has formed a band with Jeff Buckley in Hell, and it is the greatest band ever.

Edit: With Buddy Rich on drums and...Charles Mingus on bass?

Well, any of the departed we can say that about.. Jimi, Randy, Stevie, just to name a few.

Sure tech wasn't what it was then , but, effects are just enhancements to amps sound. Just a smoke screen if you will....
