Jeff Loomis may be a more skilled player overallbut Jimi revolutionized the way guitar was played. People like Eddie Van Halen and Jimi Hendrix spawned the greatest players of today.
teredd said:...Vague statement.
Consider, Jeff has 35 years of influence and technology
to pick from to put into his own playing. In the scientific and engineering community one has tables and proven formulas to rely on. It's like saying who is the "hotter" scientist, the one who invented the A-bomb or the one who made it more efficient.

Souls of Black said:So, I am gonna get bashed for this, I am sure.
I listened to "Are you Experienced" and "Electric Lady Land" in their entirety after reading this post. For my tastes, there are a couple good songs.
Everyone goes ape shit over Hendrix, I still don't know why... I listen, again and again.... Sure he pioneered the feedback, god that rocked! But to say he was a guitar god, I am still not buying that.
Before you bash me as a 19 yo emo, realize I'm 40 and was turned on to Hendrix at age 6 by my older brother. I dig some of his music, but cmon, it's not metal, nor is it the roots of metal. It is feedback, blues, feedback, blues.
You cannot compare Jeff and Jimi in the same token, totally different styles and totally different era's. Hendrix was no where near as fast as Jeff, and Jeff is no where near as creative (sorry Loomie).
In my mind, Loomis slays Hendrix. Period.
Let the bash fest begin....
teredd said:But Dude...WHAT IF Jimi heard someone like Jeff...would he speed up?
You'd puke if you heard the influences of Jimi. Most aren't even rock.

Souls of Black said:At the time, there were no players like Jeff. Jimi's influences were all blues men. Nothing bad there but Shred had not been invented..... Blues is all feel, slow and ballsy. Great sounds indeed, but not shred.
teredd said:...just imagine Jimi with some Digitech shit though man. And the amps these days along with the ability in digital for editing. Hell, Jimi couldn't even find a right-handed Strat
Actually, I like Jeff better than Jimi and think he is a more complete writer...but we didn't get much from Jimi in that short time period to compare with.

Souls of Black said:Well, any of the departed we can say that about.. Jimi, Randy, Stevie, just to name a few.
Sure tech wasn't what it was then , but, effects are just enhancements to amps sound. Just a smoke screen if you will....
