Jeff Loomis - Zero Order Phase!!

For sure. Some of those would've made some great riffs for the next Nevermore album. I hope now that Warrel and Jeff have their solo stuff out of the way, they can go back to focusing on the band (which, let's face it, as a collective is better then their separate efforts).

Agreed. But I've got to say, (and no one is more surprised about this than me!) I like WD's solo album much more. I couldn't stop listening to it for a while. I can only take Jeff's in small doses.

I was listening to this a lot and agree about it lacking that special magic. I started listening again after taking about a week off from it, this time already somewhat used to it and am enjoying it much more now and can see now that it is a masterpiece in its own right. So I would suggest taking some time off and then get back into it as it takes a lot to absorb all the shredding.

But yeah, Dane's solo for the win. :headbang:

Does anyone like the overall sound of the album? As much as I like Neil Kernon he is not my favourite producer/mixer. Andy Sneap is much better, you can hear the difference between the earlier Nevermore albums compared to the newer ones.

Btw, I loves Warrel's album! Easily one of my favourites and most played albums for me.

What I like about Neil is that his 'sound' from album to album changes quite a lot to match the band and material, whereas Andy's barely differs at all. Having said that, I tend to like the technical 'perfection' of Andy's style more, and consequently, tend to enjoy listening to his productions more.

I'll have to check out WD's album now.... the myspace clip really underwhelmed me, but maybe the rest of the stuff is different.

Same.

I think i find this "perfection" you mention to take away the real sound of the band and find i very sterile/fake sounding. I don't like it so much.

I really like the guitar tone on the Jeff Loomis album, more than any previous guitar tone on any Nevermore albums. The drums do not shock me that much even if they sound a bit dry, which may be noticeable since there's no singing at all on this album, so we tend to focus on the sound of what's left : drums, bass, guitars.

I love this album. It's good stuff.

As for guitar tone comments, the lead tone is GREAT, in my opinion... but the rhythm sound is wayyy too dark...

Comparing the sound of This Godless Endeavour and Dreaming Neon Black. They are both atmospheric but Andy also has that sound of perfection which I personally prefer.

I think the production on DNB is so fitting for the music that if it sounded any other way I would absolutely hate it. I love how on certain parts of the album there seems to be small amounts of clipping, like the speakers are like screaming or in pain or something. It really is a great example of matching production to the music.

old thread bump. does anyone know what cab was used on this? the head and guitars were talked about, but not the cab. I'm assuming it was the Engl Pro 4x12 with V30s, but does anyone know for sure?

Damn, this forum has been pretty useless lately when it comes to answering questions...

ever think that people here may not know the answer?

I think this forum is great with questions. If you think you are entitled to an answer for every question you ask, I hope you don't get an answer.
