Last night's Queen show was fantastic but a really poor turn out. About 60 - 70 people all up. He must have really been wondering about Australian crowds. Anyone know how the other shows were attendance wide?
Adelaide isn't till next week, then Hobart is after that, and Melbourne isn't until the week after. Not sure if Brisbane has been yet or not but I think Brisbane shows are over this coming weekend.
Turn out was a little better but still extremely low by normal international band standards. Embarrassing. Amazing to see someone the ilk of Soto playing to no body. I doubt he comes back here.
As far as I'm aware (grapevine) there has been basically no promotion for the tour...so it doesn't surprise me.
If a Queen tribute show was advertised in some sort of mainstream capacity, I would imagine it having a great turnout. How much of a push did they get in print and on radio?
JSS solo show (no Queen show for Brisbane unfortunately) is this Sunday.
There was an interview with Jeff in the Drum this week. The tour was organised by him and Andrew from www.melodicrock.com. I don't think there was much of a budget unfortunately.
Yeah I thought the Queen tribute shows would have actually been successful. With the right promo, showing how good a singer JSS is, it could have done a lot better.
I think the biggest issue for most people with Jeff's shows here in Sydney would have been that they were on mid-week at a venue that doesn't even open until 9pm. His first show was on a Wednesday night. That's not a night when people traditionally go out to see a band play.
That's true, but Melbourne crowds are traditionally more likely to go out mid-week. Sydney crowds aren't. That said, there wasn't a lot of promotion for the tour. A quarter-page ad in the street press costs about $180. That's not a big ask when you're promoting a tour and it's the most effective way of doing it because most people who go to gigs on a regular basis read them.
Bruce Kulick's shows here have all been mid-week and every one has been totally packed, including this year's which had expensive tickets, even less promotion than the other years (none at all) and all the fans had already seen him 2 years in a row.
Well, with all due respect, it serves him right for touring when there's barely a market there for him. Promoters are supposed to check that sort of thing out, surely.
