Jens Bogren did it again

True, but if he is now forever-banned, and it came from above Samsara, then... he must have done something COMPLETELY retarded, right? Silly moo.

And oh yeah, Jens is very good. Good job on the new live disc, sounds much better than the Lamentations dvd.

I didn't say it came from above me... I said it wasn't my decision. It was waz's decision. I'm not going to rehash it.... but again it isn't because of PEAC EOUT or lots of dots or dyslexia.

Then what was it for? I know I don't visit this forum often, but all of his posts that I've read have been harmless.

^ a while back he continuously posted videos of himself and his music in new threads which is against the rules.

Samsara gave him shitloads of warning and although we all may find Waz hilarious he has had to ban him because of his refusal to cooperate with samsaras requests many times.

PEAC EOUT

I really dig Opeth's new engineer. His work on Ghost Reveries as far as sound goes makes the other albums look pretty shameful. I was listening to Damnation the other day and noticed that the high hat is louder than like, everything...

Bogren does it perfectly. I was listening to GR for the 20th time, and it hit me "Oh shit... you can HEAR the bass!". Unless there's a specific bass feature (Orchid/Morningrise era), the bass was sort of lost in the mix.

Even though I don't like the production of GR, I have to agree with that. It's the first time I heard heard Mendez so loud and clear throughout an entire album. So, props for that.

Thanks. What about the production of GR did you have a problem with? The whole proggy feel?

Mainly, the guitars just didn't sound good to my ears. Almost as if there wasn't enough distortion, I dunno. It made the whole album sound weak. The leads don't seem to have much power, and the rhythm doesn't is just... sterile. Not exciting. The album just sounds emotionless.

I'm fairly underwhelmed by the mix of the Roundhouse Tapes to be honest. I regularly hear better low budget mixes through work. I'm not sure if I'm familiar with other stuff he's done beyond Ghost Reveries though, which was a fairly cool sound. I still have my reservations (weak drums etc.) but on the whole I think GR sounded quite good, and is likely Opeth's best heavy album sound, although I would have to say that Damnation has to take the cake for the best produced album Opeth have done.

Did you ever check out the Daylight Dies record? Its standard death growls over mid-tempo metal, but the mix makes it sound amazing really.
