Job suggestions

Geography and Land Use Planning sounds like some type of a government job to me. Marcus are you looking to move anywhere for this job? Often postions are open in a field but are located a long distance from where you want them to be.

You could try looking at federal and state jobs long distance from your folks house. Like real long distance, the entire united states.

For gov't jobs:

Don't you hate that? It's pretty soul crushing to have such an awesome interview and then not get the job. I'm in a similar situation where i'm having a hard time finding work in my chosen field and now i'm looking to diversify myself so i can find something else.

Yeah, it definitely stings every time, that's for sure - what have you been doing dude, and what are you looking to expand into?

For sure dude. I for one had limited patience with my customers, but that is how I am naturally and as a server you deal with a slew of other problems. I could write a book lol.

As a bartender, learn the basics, learn the common drinks, pour an awesome fucking draft beer, gab with the customers like they are your best friends and you will make bank. :)

I think I could handle that! And yeah, my patience is limitless for annoying customers since I usually just don't give a shit in the least, so they can all go fuck themselves (the true attitude of a good employee  )

Nothing wrong with a wedding band ;)

Seriously, I'm exiting the one that I've been in for years in the next few months, but if things don't work out for me musically I would not hesitate to start another one aimed at a broad audience.
The last wedding I went to the band were paid $1,000 each for the night. In the time that I was there I heard them play 6 songs!!!

Yeah, they sounded good, but not that good.

Even if you do find a nice career, this is a great paying hobby if you find the right people and some regular gigs.

Thanks for the encouragement Dan, and yeah, I've always been against the idea of doing anything music related for a living, but side-jobs are another story!

Donkeys, yeah, you make a good point, and it is indeed a largely government-based career (though there are a fair amount of private firms too), and I would have very little problem relocating, thanks for the suggestion! (and thanks for that URL Joe :)) Arv, I appreciate the suggestion, but sales of that nature is one thing I want to steer very clear of, seems like scam-city to me (though I'd love to move to Indiana and work for Sweetwater, have you guys seen their facility tour? :notworthy )

Have you thought about venturing into the audio production business? And I'm not really talking about recording music here (or not primarily/exclusively).

Paid, worthwhile internships are infamously rare to come by at most reputable studios, specialized in music recording. BUT: IME it's a lot easier and often offering more prospects to look for an internship at the production departments of radio/tv stations or dedicated production companies for commercials etc.

Almost all the current employees/trainees at our production team used to be our interns before.

Just an idea...

Good luck on your search! I've been lucky never being turned down after an interview, but I can imagine how disappointing it might be.

Slash, where do you work - if you don't mind me asking?

Oh, I don't mind, Joe. :)

I'm a host at a statewide private radio station I used to intern for. They offered me the job while I was still interning (as an editor and producer).

I'm still technically a student too, though. This all happened while I was graduating so my diploma has been delayed consequently. About to warp that up now though.

I'm grateful for already having had the chance to venture into a lot of areas in the media world while studying: from ad agencies and my own public relations start-up (with fellow students) to game design (still have a high-concept lying at an EA subsidiary that they'll at least rip-off at some point  ) and a/v production.

... still broke as a bloke though.

A side job where you already have strong assets would be my suggestion. As such maybe look to 'bend' your directive to not work with music. I would look into guitar tutoring, a cover band or even doing the odd demo for bands.

I know a very good drummer down here who makes a (very good) living entirely out of teaching drums, temping in bands and doing session work.
