They used to tie their hands and legs together and throw them in the river as well.They used the Iron Maiden.Tie the to a big wheel that was suspended in water and turn the wheel slowing...many things.

Yes, but possibly not as "torcher". I imagine the flames would go out if they threw them in the river. As for torture, though, the sky's the limit.
