JON OLIVA REVEALS HE SUFFERED A MINOR STROKE IN APRIL; RECORDING DOUBLE ALBUM

Savatage vocalist Jon Oliva has published a message on his Facebook page revealing that he suffered a stroke in March and that he is “focusing on the release of a double album.”

Here’s Oliva’s message:

“Dear Friends,

“I know I have been out of the touch for quite a while. So I thought it was time I brought you all up to speed.”

“As some of you know (but most do not), I suffered a stroke back in April. It was not as serious as it could have been, but it did leave me with some physical recovery challenges often associated with strokes. Physical therapy and rehab sessions are getting me back to normal and I am once again feeling confident about recording new music. Needless to say, such a traumatic health issue was a real epiphany for me....oh yeah!

“I don't regret the way I have lived my life...I lived the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle since I was 18. It's all I knew and I enjoyed the ride very much. But there comes a time in everyone's life where you have to step back and make some life changing decisions...which I have!

“So with a fresh and energized approach to my life, I can now focus on the release of a double-album of new Oliva music to be recorded and released very soon. I have been putting together a collection of songs for the past year - which I am very proud of. I think all Savatage/Jon Oliva’s Pain/Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Dr. Butcher fans will really enjoy it. I believe it will be my finest effort yet and will feature all the different flavors of my musical influences and history. I promise not to let you down!

“So to all my fans: Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your love and support over these many years together. Your desire for my music helps to fuel my soul and my love to create that music.

“God bless you all- no matter what or who that god may be. More details coming soon....

“Love and peace to each and every one of you!”

I certainly hope for a full recovery for Jon. The music world is a better place when we have music by Jon in it.

My aunt had a stroke around Halloween, so I'm aware of how devastating it can be and how long and difficult recovery can be. I'm glad you caught it when you did, I hope the damage wasn't overly severe, and I'm wishing the very best and a wonderful recovery.

I hope Jon recovers quickly and fully. Watching JOP perform Streets was truly a magical moment. I'd love for him to be able to provide us with moments like that for years to come.
