Jorn Song for Ronnie James Dio

I have to say I'm very pleased Jorn has chosen some different songs other than the usual and expected tunes (Holy Diver, Rainbow in the Dark, etc.). I'm sure its going to be fantastic.

Nailz- Nothing personal on the edit. I just hold this forum to a higher standard when it comes to certain references. It is hypocritical of me? Probably. However, I will not debate it further.

cheers,

G.

If I don't feed my trolls, they don't defend me from the demons.

Which is ironic since I'm currently watching a speech by Tim Ferris about ignoring trolls.

Why should Holy Diver and Rainbow in the Dark not be on that tribute cd? You may say you wanna hear more obscure Dio tunes but damn it I wanna hear Jorn doing "Rainbow" and the "Diver" otherwise what's the point. How can you have a proper tribute without the most famous songs? It's like doing a Megadeth tribute and not having Holy Wars or Hangar 18 on it or a Priest tribute without Painkiller. Me no likey. I love the "Song For Ronnie James" track though.

its so cool to see that tracklist, although it would of been cool to hear him sing something from Strange Highways. But Sacred Heart should be awesome. Seems Holy Diver has been covered by a lot of people, don't need another cover of it.

THIS:

is exactly why. There's several DIO and Black Sabbath and Rainbow tributes out there that have the same songs again and again and again. My level of respect for Jorn has just risen a few notches with his 'DIO' album. I'm one of the very few here who doesn't dig Jorn's major body of work. But something like this may actually cause me to revisit his originals. *shrug*

Wonderful 'Song for Ronnie James' he wrote there also. And I love the way the video shows the connection (and influence) between (of) 80's & 90's power metal and the current progressive power metal artists like those Glenn has introduced us to over the years.

I'll be purchasing Jorn's DIO tribute as soon as it's released.

We should all wear Dio shirts (if we have them) this year for the festival for all 4 days - that would be awesome!!!!

In that same frame of thought, what's a proper tribute without recognizing other songs that make up Dio's history that other people just look over? I'm not saying I would mind if Jorn did either of those songs, I'm just saying its nice that Jorn put some consideration into his choices rather than just doing exactly what would everyone would expect.

Aside from that discussion, Jorn is the man.

(in before Cheiron)

Dio is THE Legend.

:p

hahah. nicely done.

In all seriousness, Jorn has shown very limited range on the new Masterplan, I'm not sure how he'll handle this material, but I''m looking forward to hearing it.

Not sure how I feel about this 'tribute" just yet. Jorn's heart is in the right place and hes an amazing singer in his own right but...dunno...a new song written recorded, mixed, mastered, and video shot and edited all in 5 days? Hmmm...

Anyone know how long this has truly been in the works? I know Dio is a huge influence but...the memorial hasnt even taken place yet and this has gone viral already.

In 2 months its not going to matter as much because there will be many more tributes out there.

He didn't throw this together in 5 days... its been in the works for months. Frontiers just decided to capitalize (I guess) and release the video for this song now.

Your guess is correct. Clearly its the label then. The timing makes it very opportunistic.:Smug:
