I'm going to the Fanime Con tomorrrow, but not only for anime. They have a decent selection of jrock, and I was wondering: who else listens to jrock and what bands do you like?

Don't judge all anime on crap like Cowboy Bebop, Inuyasha, Dragonball Z, et cetera. There are some really good series out there, but they are all underground.

Cowboy Bebop was amazing television, period. Every time someone trots out an 'amazing underground anime,' it's inevitably painfully derivative of either Helsing, Cowboy Bebop, the second Lupin III series, Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D, Eva or the classic Otomo feature films (i.e. Akira). Really quite reminiscent of the tools who slag off Burzum but worship Drudkh, when you think about it.

And J-rock BLOWS.

1st time I get to say this, but you have crap taste.

No, I merely have taste that is dictated by quality rather than by the desire to impress the stupid. I don't have time to waste on crap like Berserk or Fist of the North Star or Now and Then, Here and There or any of the other mindless violent bullshit fanime con fags are trotting out as if it were more significant than the 'mainstream' shows and OVAs they pretend to despise,

Cowboy Bebop and Trigun are 2 of the best animes ever made. I dont care much for J-rock. A few songs from Sex Machineguns and Dir en Grey are ok, not my thing though.

So you implicitly claim that everyone's taste should be dictated by "quality". but then the term taste would be pretty obsolete, wouldn't it?

what is quality? is it based on some theoretical evaluations? on how well some lo-fi black metal band manages to simulate the Doppler effect? (lol)

If I would tell you which bands I like, you would probably discard all of them. but who cares? certain albums mean something to me...and I don't even know exactly why. there's something bigger than "theoretical quality", you know. I just guess you don't know what I'm talking about here. poor Scourge.

edit: oh I see you were talking about anime. but you made a general statement so there you go...

(longest post in ages!)

Is it because of what occurred on Blood in our Wells that you have become so hostile towards Drudkh? I recall a time when you once referred to them as a "decent modern BM act" (or something along those lines) over at the M-A boards sometime ago, which would implicate that you think their early works (the first two, in this case) have some quality to them, or have you become critical of those first two works as well?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Drudkh - just as there's nothing wrong with most derivative anime. The issue I have is with people who would dismiss the classics while elevating that which is, in the final analysis, little more than a pale imitation of the classics to a stature it does not deserve.

not to rain on anyone's parade, but I'd say Mono and Explosions in the Sky are extremely overrated and average :tickled: :unrelatedsmiley:
