JSX? or 5150???

5150, no contest - IMO/IME it's a question of versatility (JSX) vs. tone (5150), but unfortunately neither has both (which is where the Dual Rectifier comes in of course :D)

I'd second metaltastics opinion. (about the characteristics of the amp, not about the personal preferences, you gotta decide that for yourself)

the JSX is really versatile (and IMO great sounding), the 5150 is a one trick pony, but damn, that trick is überawesome!

I'll third that as well .

But if I could only use one amplifier for the rest of my life it would definitely be a dual recto.

And I'll fourth it! I've never heard anything impressive coming out of a JSX, nothing brutal, but the 6505 is brutal personified. I'm now exclusively using the Jason Soucof/Mark Lewis 6505+ settings live and it's just the way that amp should always sound, just amazing!

Never got on with Dual Rectifiers, though, but I know there's tone to be had. I'm currently talking to Framus about an endorsement because our bassist has a Warwick deal, so should be easy to get me on board. Hope I can work a Dragon or Cobra head!

Never heard Chimaira, but I'm not a fan of "The Ills" tone (fizzy/thin and kinda metallic IMO, the definitive factors of the JSX IME! And this is from listening to good quality mp3's on imeem.com, btw)

The JSX is really versatile amp. The Ultra channel is very modern, and you can get a great, really chunky, mid-heavy sound out of the crunch channel. The cleans will blow a 5150 out of the water!

That being said, if you like the 5150 sound, nothing can come close!!

No but Lasse does :p

Not enough though, I daresay! And just to set the record straight, I don't think the tone on "The Ills" is bad, since of course it was coaxed out of the amp by lord Sneap (and apparently some damn tight players) - it's just that I hear some unpleasant characteristics in it (slight metallicness, thinness/fizz) that make me feel it would've sounded even better had he used the 5150, Rectifier, or Krank instead.

I say the 5150. That being said I am biased bc there are only 3 heads I have owned that have never let me down. My 5150, Krank Rev1, and Roadster. I also am a former JSX owner and while I loved the head, it just didn't do what I needed it to do.

Hey, you made that badass clip of your Roadster a thousand years ago, so you did something right then! And you're sentiment about it being good in the room/at practice motivates me to link to this thread I posted, for those who didn't see it:

Not calling you a n00b by any stretch, cuz you're mixes are killer (the Zero System stuff being the big example), but rather just using your statement to illustrate the point I was trying to make in that thread

Yeah I know......fuck I wish I still had that Roadster clip, but oh well haha. I just haven't ever been very good at mic'ing up an amp, but thats probably due to lack of practice. Since I live in an area where housing is so close together I have to time when I can do it. But yeah I am with you in that post you made.

Also don't sweat calling me a noob, newb, nube. I would probably just say, "yeah, you're right" haha.
