JSX? or 5150???

Ok, listening to the title track off of Chimaira's "Resurrection" - IMO it's just another example of a tone that fits incredibly well in the mix, but does nothing for me beyond that (got a bit of upper mid djent to it that I'm not crazy about). Music is pretty cool though!

........... what? $150? Did they drop it from an airplane or what?

O.O

wtf dude... if it's in OK shape then that's like... uhhh.... *shocked*

There are a few good things about total economic collapse. I kinda feel like a dick but its what GC offered him, so i told him i would match that and throw in a case of whatever he drinks.

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck that's cheap

i'll probably be picking one up soon for $300...i thought that was a steal...goddamn!

Chimaira?
Dispised Icon?

I meant sitting in front of the amp. Contrary to what most people here buy an amp for, I want an amp that firstly sounds good in person, and how it sounds recorded is secondary, cos everything I record sound like shit anyway  I'm talking Guitar>Lead>amp, no studio magic. I thought the JSX was just used on lead guitars in one of the Chimaira albums? There's a place for both the JSX and the 5150, each does stuff better than the other, but a JSX wouldn't be my first choice if I were in a Chimaira covers band, ya know?

I really want to spend more time with the JSX. I know they sound good, at least to my ears, tone preference, and what I've heard in person.

They are pretty much apples and oranges, but the JSX has more versatility going for it and a better clean. To generalize, the 5150 is more raw, gritty, mid heavy. The JSX will be more "refined" and "hi-fi" sounding, with more of an emphasis on the lower mids.

You can't go wrong with either! The 5150 is pretty much a standard in this type of music, so if you can score a deal on that one then go for it! I would still recommend trying both. That is the best way to tell.

That's a 5150 + Krankenstein, not JSX. Maybe leads though. I dunno lol.

I'd definitely love to spend some time with a JSX, and may well do one day. It's more than useable from what I've heard, only in guitar stores and with minimal tweaking. I was hoping to check out the JSX 50, but Peavey's described it as more of a rock amp, and not 120watt JSX sounding at all.

here's a short clip with the JSX crucnh-channel:

JSX Crunch

again, no tweaking on the amp, mic just placed by eye etc...it'll get way better with like 5 mins of tweaking

Ultra Channel:

JSX Ultra

Whoa whoa, no fair having the bass much more prominent on the Ultra clip! ;) Sounds like what I expected it to; adequate, but nothing special (still a bit of the metallic "clanginess" in there)
