I was 17/18 when I heard that Rob is gay, and since that moment I've really had problems listening to these songs, the thought that this was written by a man for another was pretty disturbing for me.
but as I got older two things happened, I learned to accept it, and I think the fact that I knew such a great song like "before the dawn" really helped me in realizing that homosexuallity is not a bad thing. and I learned to get away from whatever the writer might have thought when writing something, and let my own imagination/interpretation take the lead.

just thought about that when I read about the love bites thread (imho one of the best in priest tributes (another being fate's the ripper)

Who cares if Halford is gay, he is one hell of a singer. NEVERMORE'S reinvention of "Love Bites" is amazing. I always pictured a guy, or a vampire/dracula, creeping up on a girl in this song when it says "there you lie still, to you I creep" and being "in the dead of night, LOVE BITES." Also, "Burning Up" is ambiguous enough to be about a guy or girl, and what about Priest's cover of Joan Baez's "Diamond's and Rust" which, to me, could be about any kind of relationship whether it be heterosexual, homosexual, or as "metallica sucks..." would like, a bestial relationship with an animal (ha!ha!) What about "Victim Of Changes" were it says "Whiskey woman don't you know that you are driving me insane." Personally I don't agree with homosexuality, but I have friends who are gay and to each his own as long as the gay people don't try to impress their sexuality on me.
