********ELITIST NEWSLETTER - June 2003**********
Here's the latest newsletter. We've got a lot of stuff going on at the moment, so read on...
***EPHEL DUATH**********
The Painter's Palette is out now and is getting some astonishing reviews across the globe. Here's just an example:
Kerrang! - Printed - UK - KKKKK (out of 5)
"This is the stuff Albums Of The Year are made of"
Metal Hammer - UK
"The Painter's Palette is a dizzying concoction of sounds and dynamics that defies categorisation. Splendid"
Terrorizer - Printed - UK
"..one of the most acute triumphs in recent memory of eclecticism and artsy introspection alike"
Ultimatemetal.com
"I can see this album gaining widespread recognition, and even if this is not the case, I believe Ephel Duath have created what could easily become a cult, genre-defining release."
The PRP
"...for those with a taste for true musical art, "The Painter's Palette" is a piece that rivals the works of Picasso in the field of abstract brilliance."
Metal Review - Online - US - 6 out of 6
"This is a release that doesn't come along too often, and if you're looking for an album with a twist to metal, look no further than The Painter's Palette. I foresee this making a lot of top-ten lists this year."
Progressor.net - 6 out of 6
"On "The Painter's Palette" Ephel Duath look as the most talented, original, and inventive followers of the legacy of the bands and performers pioneered uniting such seemingly incompatible styles as Metal and Jazz: Sieges Even, Watchtower, Cynic, John Zorn, to name just a few. Furthermore, these youngsters, yet, early developers reached the elevations that none of the other artists working in this genre had set foot on. If you're always eager for something really fresh in music and aren't limited by any stylistic and complexity-related framework, don't miss this masterpiece on any account."
All Music
"Not since Faith No More's post-"Epic" albums where they had the label clout and studio time to explore their kinks in detail has there been a metal-based album as flat-out weird as Ephel Duath's The Painter's Palette."
Negative
"...this is surely one of the best album of the last 10 years of Metal history..."
And so it goes on.
A QuickTime video for the track "The Passage" is now available for download on the Kerrang! website. The band plays their debut London show on Tuesday 24th June at the Upstairs At The Garage venue (opposite Highbury corner tube station). Tickets are still available. Just follow this link: http://www.ticketmaster.co.uk and search for the band name there. Support comes from Mistress and Desolation. It's going to be a great night, and will possibly be your last chance to see the band in such an intimate venue.
Davide Tiso, the genius behind Ephel Duath will be interviewed live on Total Rock on Monday 23rd June.
He will be taking time out of recording a session for the station to talk to Larissa (who's standing in for Matt Mason), about the new album, touring and anything else that's in/on his mind!
You might even be able to win tickets to the London show!
Check out Larissa's Metal Lunchbox show 12-3pm (UK time) on
www.totalrock.com or if you're in the UK via SKY channel 885 or NTL channel 874
***LUNARIS********
A press statement from the band:
"Guitarist Azarak is now no longer a part of Lunaris. He has not attended rehearsals steadily for a year, and has not contributed to the new songs, so the choice was easy.
This was without a doubt the best decision for both parties, as it has been clear for a while that he was not comfortable with the direction Lunaris have taken since "...the infinite". A new guitarist will be tested today, but most likely M will do all the guitar-work for the recording of "Cyclic", which starts very soon."
***WITHOUT FACE*****
The band has apparently found members to replace the recently departed Juliette Kiss (female vocals) and Roomy (guitars). No names have been supplied to us yet, but we will let you know something as soon as we have that information.
The band is working on new material and will record the follow up to the successful "Astronomicon" album early in 2004.
***TO-MERA******
This is the new band formed by Juliette and Roomy, who wasted no time when they got back to their native Hungary.
The band is still at the rehearsal stage, but will record a demo in a few weeks. The band describe themselves as heavy, progressive metal with a middle-eastern vide. Influences include Opeth, Messuggah, Pain Of Salvation and Wolverine, amongst others.
A demo track will be posted on the Elitist website as soon as we have it.
***WOLVERINE****
The band will spend most of July re-recording their album Cold Light Of Monday at the renowned Space Lab studios in Germany.
This action had to be taken after the first recording sessions were rendered unusable thanks to a serious number of mistakes and blunders made by the original sound engineer. The full extent of these mistakes was only apparent when the band took the tapes to Space Lab for a re-mix. The re-mix proved impossible and the only course of action was to either start again from scratch, or release an inferior sounding album. Naturally the band took the second option.
We hope to get the album out in late autumn, and we'll be releasing an updated MP3 as soon as we have one.
***FOREST STREAM****
