just finished mixing new INSTIL cd, check it out

Hi, I just finished mixing & mastering the new Instil CD "stalking death" and put 1 of the songs (Come off Triumphant) in my myspace player.

www.myspace.come/xpzsound

I didn't do the tracking, justthe mixing and mastering so i can't say very much about the gear used.
what i do know:

tracking is done by Jorg @ soundlodge studio, Germany

drumkit used: pearl session
snaredrum: pearl masters maple (14" x 5,5")
cymbals: mainly paiste alpha series

kick is 100% triggered with a sample i recorded myself at the Architect recording sessions (pearl export miced with B91 inside + 602 outside)
snare is +/- 40% triggered with a sample i recorded myself at brandnewday recording sessions (mapex black panther 14"x5,5") recorded with beta58 on top and 57 on bottom)

2 roomics were used, 2 overheads and close mics for highhat and ride.

bas: musicman stingray -> SansAmp Bass Driver -> Ashdown ABM500 -> Ashdown ABM8x10. i just got 1 track with blended signal, so can't tell much more about that.

rythm guitars: ESP Deluxe with seymour suncan 59's. 2x Peavey tripple XXX, 2x mesa boogie studio caliber-> mesa boogie 90/90

leads: i guess the tripple XXX since the guitarplayer with the XXX plays the solo's.

vocals: 58

i know it's just myspace quality, still curious what you guys think of it though

Apart the tiresome hi-mid guitar peak, I think it sounds really good when things are in full motion - lots of detail can be heard - very nice! Guitars sound rather weak on their own though (in the breakdown part when only guitars can be heard). Just my 0.02 EUR

Sounds great man! I've allready heard this song on their myspace.
It sounds like they made a whole stylistic change, new songs are different from what they used to make..
Nice mix for sure..

Just had a gig last week with instil...was fun..

thanks for the response guys. cool pic funky!
@ knifevariable: instil tends to like their guitarsound pretty dry and chunky. they use a lot less gain and more mids than most metalbands i know. on their own it might not sound as fat but it really works well all together i think.

the version on the instil myspace is a little different from the one on mine. just some minor changes made before the final master:
a little more overheads
a little less snare trigger
a bit more compression in the low end in the mastering
