Just got my Mensa test back...

Seems that I have an IQ of 135, which is better than 99% of the population. You need 131 to be a member of Mensa. That still doesn't mean I'm not a total idiot that I am

Good job.. always a good fun fact topic to bring up :D.
.. But other then that, the whole IQ rating thing is kinda useless in RL.

I mean, guess what the guy in Denmark with the highest IQ of all does for a living.. complex physics stuff / something really smart?. nah he is a mailman hehe

yeah I was tested at 135 too .. never thought about trying to make it official with a Mensa test .. is there a benefit?

Looks good on the CV? But for real, it's a club for high IQ people with activities.

wtf is Mensa

That's sick man. How'd you go about getting it done? I did an IQ test when I was a kid and got like 163ish, so I don't really want to shatter that illusion XD

Just went to the Finnish Mensa website, did the webtest, scored max score in it, checked their test schedule, paid the 30€ for the test and Charlie Sheened it.

you gunna pay those fools for a membership card?

35€ a year or 550€ for lifetime membership, it's not that bad.

The only time in my life my IQ was useful is when I passed the 2nd out of 3 levels of concourse to pass the national pilot concourse.

Cause during this 2nd series of elimination, it's all about spatial stuff, calculus, logics, psychotechs, psychomotors (you have to play with a stick a videogame like, while you have to choose color forms, to perform head calculus, and handle inversions of the controls), etc. We have 2 marks (psychotechs, and psychomotors), which places you on a gaussian curve, which means if you have 5 on 9 50% of people did better than you, and 50% did less, if you have 6 it's maybe 33/66 or something like that. I was surprised I had 9 on 9 on both, and it turns out that out of 2500 to 3000ppl, we were only 4 to do that.

And guess what ? It's useless during the training I can tell you

But the contrary still is true, you can't accept in an liner airplane someone who cannot handle at least a little those stuff.

Anyway, I doubt Mensa is for me, I don't see what benefit I can have out of it. My particularity is that I am eager to learn the stuff I love (music, audio production, photography, dance etc) and can't have enough of it but I'm really not sure that's something I can find with them.

congrats! that is a very good score and something to be proud of.

i'd say go for the lifetime membership. looks DAMN good on the CV to be a lifetime member and the connections you make can only be a good thing down the road.

The test itself is kinda like playing logic puzzle games on pen and paper. since I've been playing similar video games since age 7, I didn't find too hard.

Years ago I completed an exercise book for job interview tests.
Tons of exercises that were like the ones you find in the intelligence tests, so I was trained to do this kind of tests and now everytime I do a test in internet I AM THE FUCKING MASTER, and more intelligent than 2x Stephen Hawkings.

That said, I don't believe very much on this tests cause sure there are many super intelligent people that don't even know reading or writing.

Anyway, congrats!, you crushed Forrest Gump!

btw, in case you are interested, this is their version of the "benefits" list:

Yup, autistic people usually are extremely ridiculously intelligent at something, but not in the broad social way most people understand it.

It's normal yeah, an IQ test is not a total reflexion of your "real" IQ defined intelligence. You can train on it because the second time you do one, you already know which stuff you are supposed to find on a domino suite or a suite of numbers etc. It's usually the same stuff, that's why people with an IQ of more than 140 are not that rare to find. i think the only way to have a realistic IQ would be a whole day test so that it removes the "training" factor in it.

About the fact a writer can be intelligent and have an shitty IQ, it's normal, it doesn't aim at the same intelligence. There are several types of intelligences universally recognized, and an IQ test doesn't cover them all. There are equivalent tests which have other targets. And I guess it's still possible to find people who suck at all those stuff but you would call "intelligent" a way or another. Also, we're so different, for example, even if I had 9/9 on both tests, during the psychotechnics tests, there were dozens of different ones, and sometimes, there would have one I could do NOTHING with. I mean, I was feeling like a retarded cause I couldn't even do the first page. Usually, when it involves letters and words, like finding a name when the letters are randomly mixed, I just can't do it cause my way of thinking wants to check each possibility one by one which would take days.

These just are tools anyway

BTW I didn't know the Mensa test is something you could mention on a CV, in that case it's interesting cause in my profession those kind of skills are a plus. In that case I may go to the next local test which is this saturday, pay those 40€, just to mark it on my CV if I pass the test... Or maybe not, maybe it looks arrogant, I don't know. 40€ is the price of a waves plugs these days
