They cost quite a bit at the moment... I think 16gb goes for 1000 SEK here in Sweden or something, that's like 100€. I'm not sure, might've been 32gb but still.

Give it a year or two and they will probably drop, like anything else "new" They're wickedly fast though! It's really time to get rid of the moving machine parts in our storage devices if you ask me... solid state is the shit!

£175 shipped for the 64GB 2.5" SATA SLC Sammy here : ) I was going to get the micro SATA one, which is much cheaper, but alas i couldnt be fucked with messing around with getting the special connector that goes for about £25 shipped.

I saw somewhere selling them for £599

Loco, have you run the hyperfast optimisation? That was the first thing I did. Ive also switched my page file off. It's recommended not to fill it over 3/4 so I hear if you want to optimise it.

And yes, this hard drive will be £20 by the end of next year

Only because making 12,000 fade files for beatfixx sessions takes 20 minutes on my standard drive. An 8MB folder with 12,000 tiny wav files.

I got my wife an Acer Aspire One netbook, with a solid state drive, for only $250 from NewEgg on a special. Boot time with Ubuntu Linux is wickedly fast. I'm sure these drives perform even better with full-on desktop hardware.

Does it noticeably improve performance with SSD 3.0 or other sample-based virtual instruments for any of you guys?

The OCZ Vertex seems to be best bang for buck.
I'm gonna stick it out a while longer at least until the problem with reduced write times gets sorted out.

AFAIK Samsung's PRAM will go into mass production starting in June 2009. So this seems to be better than Flash --> up to 30x faster, reduced write times due to the fact that no prior read is needed and 10x more read/write cycles.
