I just bought a nice used Digidesign 96 I/O for $1000.

I am hoping this was the right model to go with.

I thought it was a good deal and didnt have to much time to research it.

The 96i appeared to be for line level instruments.

I am assuming this should be what I need to interface with Mic Pre's and then into Pro Tools HD? Standard band recording setup. Not the 96i. Right?

And it has the ADAT In and Out so theoretically I should be able to use my exsisting RME/Nuendo 96K 8 I/0 converter with the 96 I/O for a total of 16 tracks into Pro Tools HD right?

Either would of been fine. 96i is 16 balanced/unbalanced TRS inputs and a stereo Output plus S/PDIF, whereas the 96 is 8 I/O analog, 8 channels of ADAT optical I/O, 2 channels of AES/EBU and S/PDIF I/O.

If you need the digital options, then yes you got the right one.

It's a bad idea to buy digital stuff without doing some research beforehand. The 96 is on par with your existing gear. If you want to step it up you need a 192 or some of the Apogee i/o's.
