Just returned from seeing the Michael Shenker Group live in Tilburg, Holland.
Opener was Niki Puppet, a German band who brings quit simple but effective hard rock. I would describe them as a hard rockin' version of the Guano Apes, if you know that German band.. Pretty good female vocalist and an awesome guitar player, who's solo's were unfortunatly much to short !!
Most people though came for MSG ofcourse...they played mostly old songs, and I think 2 or so from the new album...All the classics ; "Ready to Rock", "Mad Axeman", "Into the Arena", "On and On" etc..As extra we got "Doctor Doctor" and "Rock Bottom"... The band is pretty young, a very good new vocalist, a bass player who looks like a Hare Krishna, ya know ; bald with a pony tail on top of their head..He banged that pony tail around all the time and looked like a helicopter :-) On top of that he is a superb bass player !!! Oh yeah, it was the Michael Shenker band...So what about him?? Well, he was there, played every solo nearly flawless and that's about all there is to say; Michael didn't seem to be a bit interested in what he was doing, was extremely static (he even moved ONE time from his spot to the middle of the stage), didn't say a word to the public, not even a little smile was given away.....The other guys from the band were very enthousiastic, energetic, Michael seemed burned out, although his guitar play was fantastic..
So..a good concert, but Michael, if you don't like what you're doing just quit !!

Sounds like Schenker is burned out. He will not come to the USA anytime soon do to legal reasons...
Rev. Jones the bass player is outstanding!
Is Pete Holmes still the drummer? And is Wayne Fredley still the keyboardist?!

Yep , both are still in the band...Indeed bass player Jones is outstanding, he's one of the better bass players I ever saw, despite his funny appearance :-) There was this little drum and bass solo wich was the hight of the concert I think..

One thing that always bugged me about MSG (the guy not the band) is when he puts out the really weak acoustic releases and calls them "Thank You". So to say thank you to your fans you put out another release for them to buy? Whoopee! Give me a hat so my head won't explode with excitement!

If he wanted to say thank you he would make it a freebie for a fan club or something. Sure you have to pay for the fan club, but that way he would only go to a few hardcore fans, be an instant collectors item, and he could put it out with a lower budget (not being a retail release through a record company), so in the end it would be WAY cheaper for the fan.

He has come off as way too bored and way too arrogant for way too long. It's a sad waste of talent.

sounds like the show he did last year here. Michael is very stiff and non mobile. Not many facial expressions either.

Sixx- MS Band is playing in L.A. this Summer.

I'm seeing the band on Monday in Paris. I'm a bit worried about the Schenk' but I hope it's still worth going, the man is one of my favorite guitar players ever and I don't want to miss that...

6 US shows and 1 in Canada. He's not to be missed imo just wish he would 'feel' his music as he plays. And he could also do without the athletic jogging attire on stage this isn't hip-hop! Not the greatest picture (of either of us:lol: ) I look like a deer in the headlights and he looks 1/2 asleep:ill:

Wel, I'm sure it wasn't too hard for Kitty to pull that smile out of Michael ;-)..
Here's a pic of Michael at the concert I went to, shows clearly he wasn't in the mood for stuff...

Carnut, cute little rocker you got there!

hehe, it's not one of mine,. I got two daughters and they don't care that much for Metal. They are more into dance stuff... Well, I do punish them now and than when they listen to house music and stuff too much. 2 houres in the dark cellar cools them down mostly :heh:

I would guess Michael's suffering from the dreaded male pattern baldness .... which for a rock star is a bit of a problem usually.

He looks near death. You look great as always.

Well my Old School friends I saw Schenker 2 nights ago in Glasgow and it was a crackin concert. They were absolutely amazing and Schenker can still thrash it out BIGTIME. Missed the first support band and got there just in time to hear the 2nd band play their last song. They sounded alright, a bit like Girlschool and I'm just guessing it was a female singer but at this point we were up the back at the bar and the place was totally crammed and I couldn't even see the stage at this point.

Anyway decided to try and get nearer the stage and I'm not joking it was like the parting of the Red Sea, everyone just sort of moved out of the way and I just sauntered right up to the front of the stage no bother at all . After about 10 minutes Schenker & Co came on stage and blasted off with Assault Attack which was fantastic.

I agree with Carnut in that his band just now is brilliant, all of them seemed very enthusastic and were getting right into it, the drummer was excellent and I was standing right in front of the bassplayer who was tremendous but looked a bit of a freak - completely shaved head with just this big massive ponytail sticking out of the top of his napper, the rest of his head tattooed and he spun that ponytail round and round the entire time he was onstage and I'm not joking I thought he was actually gonny take off at one point and I was getting dizzy just watching him, he was a scream. The singer was fabulous and was having a great time on stage, giving it 100%.

While he was singing Only You Can Rock Me, he came right over to me and sang the chorus right into my face (just like Brian Ross of Blitzkrieg did) and then when he sang the chorus the second time, again he walked right over and bent down and sang it into my face - WOW how awesome is that !!!! And this wee guy beside me said "Hey ur you his burd or something"

Schenker was totally brilliant, giving a perfect performance, don't think he said one single word right enough and he didn't move about much either but he genuinely looked as if he was enjoying himself and he smiled quite a few times as well!!!! He looks good though, he's slimmed right down now and looking pretty fit & hot and wearing leather trousers - NICE!!!!.

Highlights of the night were definitely Only You Can Rock Me (cos the singer sang it to me and plus it was awesome), Doctor Doctor, Attack Mad Axe and my fav of the night was Rock Bottom - that was friggin phenomenal and very nearly took the roof off.

Bit shocked cos they didn't play Armed & Ready and it was over very quick, when we got outside it was still LIGHT. MSG were actually only on the stage for just over ONE HOUR, so that was a bit of a shocker when the likes of Saxon the week before played for almost 2 and a half hours plus Blitzkrieg were on for about 45 minutes before them.. Still MSG were mindblowing plus at the end of the concert, the bassplayer shook my hand, the singer shook my hand twice and then Schenker came over shook my hand as well - awesome stuff eh!!!!

Set List

Assault Attack
Ready to Rock
Let It Roll
Dust to Dust
Love Trade
Shadow Lady
Lights Out
Into the Arena
Only You Can Rock Me
Attack Mad Axe
Doctor Doctor
Rock Bottom

Brilliant night and next gig for me is The Answer this coming Wednesday at The Barfly. This is the band that are supporting Whitesnake next month, very Zepplinesque, heard a few of their songs and they're brillinant and this will be my first time seeing them, so will be another fantastic night!!! Think there's 4 bands playing but I'll probably stay in the Solid Rock Bar and just go round in time to catch The Answer.

Cool reviews, carnut and Princess! I'll bet carnut's jealous that Princess got serenaded. :heh:

huhu, I wouldn't mind a hug from Schenker , got one from Lips of Anvil too, haha.... Glad to hear though that Schenker seemed to enjoy the gig in England more, that's cool.
