Kalmah - The Black Waltz

For some reason, I'm deeply disappointed with it right now. Unlike Kalmah's previous albums, there was nothing from the start that made me go WOW this song is gonna be great. After listening to it more I still didn't hear any melodies that suprised me. I felt like it was took from other Kalmah songs but it had been altered in a bad way.

Also, some parts actually reminded me of AYDY. Especially the intros. I have no idea why but it just did. I definitely need to listen to it more. Overall I'm enjoying it but I feel like it's Kalmah's worst album so far. I'm still going to buy it but for some reason I'm just a little disappointed at the moment. :erk:

That is too bad Blake. I'm really enjoying it right now. I am sure the more you listen to it you will enjoy it more. I feel like I am hearing a few familiar melodies also..for example I am listening to the song Groan of the Wind right now and the lead at 1:10 sounds alot like something I have heard before from them..but I am really enjoying this so far and I think they have added alot more depth and some new elements to their sound. They are progressing their music without straying or abandoning their older style, something Dark Tranquillity has perfected, and something Children Of Bodom has obviously forsaken.

It's an excellent album, however it's not as melodic as previous albums and i miss the 'Heroes To Us' and 'Swamphell' kind of intro riffs, still fucking rules:headbang:

kickass album imo!
I prefer the old vocals, but the old kalmah was saturated, and it was time for a change. They changed in a good way, improved and added without ceasing to be themselves. Comparing it to AYDY is like a sacrilege o_O
I really liked the guitar tone, it's not artificial like before, and matches the music perfectly.
It lacks some good leads, though.
My favorite track is groan of the wind.
And yeah, it's a buyer.
