Kalmah

Kalmah is good, the Black Waltz is a weaker effort they changed their vocal style on TBW to be more deathish. I like the original Swampvocals so I would say get Swamplord, They will Return, and Swampsong because they are the best albums.

Exactly, those 3 albums are amazing, get them.

Kalmah's the band that got me into death metal as well. They Will Return is absolutely one of my favorite albums of all time. However, they're not so much death metal as melodic death metal, or even more specifically "melodic power metal with harsh vocals." Here are some other bands that have a similar style:

- Blood Stain Child
- Catamenia
- Children of Bodom
- Imperanon
- Kalmah
- Norther
- Sins of Omission
- Skyfire
- Wintersun

Here are some other bands that I think are worth checking out:

Melodic & Symphonic Black / Death Metal

- The Absence
- Blind Stare
- Blinded by Faith
- Chthonic
- Dimmu Borgir
- Finntroll
- Light This City
- Nazgul
- Old Man's Child
- Profugus Mortis
- Stormlord
- Susperia
- Tvangeste

Melodic & Symphonic Metal with Clean Vocals / Instrumental
- After Forever
- Apocalyptica
- Archontes
- Arkona
- Axxis
- Blind Guardian
- DivineFire
- Dragonland
- Edenbridge
- Epica
- Felony
- Firewind
- Nightwish
- Rhapsody / Rhapsody of Fire
- Seraphim
- Sonata Arctica
- Therion
- Tristania
- Turisas
- Warmen

Kalmah is one of the greatest MDM bands out there, all their albums are amazing. Kalmah - They Will Return, fucking classic, I heard they will come with a re-issue this year!!!

Kalmah is awesome, but they're not death metal by the standard definition, and they're definitely not "melodic power metal metal with harsh vocals" wtf is that genre? They have nothing to do with power metal. They're just a melodic death metal band with awesome fucking guitar riffs, kick ass vocals and some pretty sick melodies.

awesome band and I can't wait for their new album.

btw they're better than COB, Norther and Insomnium combined.

I'm a huge Insomnium fan..
In the Halls of Awaiting-Jester Race era In Flames sounding, with less solos, but still great
The Day It All Came Down-Opeth influenced...especially the acoustic moments.
Above the Weeping World-Some Edge of Sanity moments, along with a little Opeth, but they're starting to make create their own style more.
